Imani Dia Smith, the former actress behind Young Nala in The Lion King on Broadway, has died. She was 25. 

According to Playbill, the actress was killed by her boyfriend, Jordan D. Jackson-Small, who has been charged with murder, endangering the welfare of a child, and weapons offenses.
Smith played Young Nala from September 27, 2011, to September 23, 2012. Her mother also has connections to the stage as a hair stylist for The Lion King on Broadway and more.
She is survived by her three-year-old son, her parents, and her two younger siblings. According to a GoFundMe set up for her family,
Imani had her whole life ahead of her. She was a vivacious, loving and fiercely talented person. A true triple-threat performer, she most notably played the role of Young Nala on Broadway in Disney’s Lion King — an experience that reflected the joy, creativity, and light she put into the world.
