Emma Stone Talks Miss Piggy Movie in New Interview

In a recent interview, Emma Stone spoke mainly about her movie Bugonia, but she also briefly discussed the upcoming Miss Piggy project. We first reported on this project with involvement from Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, and Cole Escola late last year.

In the W Magazine interview with Lynn Hirschberg, she asks Emma Stone if she would be playing Miss Piggy in the upcoming project. Emma Stone had a reply filled with respect for the star:

First of all, that is the biggest insult to Miss Piggy I’ve ever heard, and I will not have her name dragged through the mud like that. Why would I play a literal star? She’s the greatest. No, of course I’m not playing Miss Piggy. And neither is Jen. We pale in comparison. Are you out of your mind? Miss Piggy is playing Miss Piggy. She would be storming out right now at the mere suggestion.

Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, and Cole Escola are working on a Miss Piggy movie

It’s not surprising that such a high-wattage star as Miss Piggy would attract such talent for her first-ever solo feature. Lawrence and Stone have each garnered multiple Best Actress Oscar nominations, with Lawrence winning in 2012 for Silver Linings Playbook and Stone in 2016 and 2023 for La La Land and Poor Things, respectively. Stone also played the titular role in 2021’s Cruella, the live-action origin story of Disney villain Cruella de Vil.

Bringing Miss Piggy’s story to the screen will be Cole Escola, a Broadway sensation for their play Oh, Mary! Along with winning the 2025 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play, they were also nominated for the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Cole will next be seen as the villainous Bon Clay in season three of Netflix’s live-action “One Piece.”

Although Miss Piggy has indisputably been one of The Muppets’ stars since her creation in the 1970s by Bonnie Erickson and Frank Oz, she has never helmed her own feature film. Nevertheless, her filmography is truly impressive, with five decades of acclaimed film and television roles. Watch her full filmography on Disney+.
