Marvel Star Kat Dennings Says the Studio Has Digitally Saved Her Likeness

Kat Dennings has claimed the Marvel studio has digitally preserved her likeness, presumably for use in future projects.

MCU Star Kat Dennings on the red carpet

As reported by Variety, Kat Dennings – who portrays Darcy Lewis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) – revealed that Marvel Studios conducted a full-body scan of her, meaning the studio now has a digital model of her likeness that could be used in future projects.

She explained that because her digital data is “in the system,” Marvel could technically insert her into films or series even if she hasn’t actually filmed any scenes for those projects. Dennings shared this while speaking with Entertainment Tonight on the set of her ABC sitcom Shifting Gears.

It’s possible her comments could be a tongue-in-cheek denial of any involvement in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. According to her original quote:

“What’s ‘Doomsday’? Oh ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ I thought you meant our show. Like, is that the finale?” Dennings quipped. “I am in the [Marvel] universe and, as you know, I can’t tell you anything. But I am not in it. I mean, I’m not in it. I am telling you right now, I’m not in it. If I were in it, which I’m not, I couldn’t tell you, but I literally am not. I’m sure they already filmed it. I was here [on set]. I’m not in it. But they did scan me, so to be honest they could put me in anything they want at this point. I’m in the system.”

The comments sparked broader discussion about how Hollywood increasingly uses digital scans and virtual assets of actors, a topic that has generated both interest and controversy in the industry.

Dennings’ most recent MCU appearance technically came in a voice role for the animated series What If…? She voiced her live-action character Darcy in four episodes of the show. Her future with Marvel is unknown at this time, as is how the studio intends to use her likeness, assuming her claims are genuine.

Dennings’ remarks highlight how legacy MCU contributors might remain connected to the franchise through digital means, even when not actively appearing on screen.
