Arthur Novell, founding member of the Jim Henson Legacy and behind-the-scenes supporter of Jim Henson, has passed away today, February 19, 2026. He was 89 years old.

Arthur Novell was born on August 30, 1936. He was a founding member and executive director of the nonprofit organization, the Jim Henson Legacy. For much of Henson’s career, Novell was the public relations manager.
During Muppets Tonight, Novell was the liaison for the guest stars, explaining how to walk on the elevated sets, how to speak to the Muppets and not the puppeteers, and ensuring the stars were comfortable with the production. This role was performed by David Lazer for The Muppet Show.
