Universal Orlando Resort recently announced that the Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift roller coaster will replace Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit at Universal Studios Florida. We now have some aerial photos to get a bird’s eye view of ongoing construction.

A service building for the attraction is well underway, although it is currently just  steel framework.

Lots of construction equipment is present in the area alongside concrete forms that will eventually support the coaster.

A wider view of the station shows its location in relation to the New York section of Universal Studios Florida. There is a separate project happening in front of top the sound stages.

Many concrete forms have been dug and poured surrounding the former firehouse entrance, where Rip Ride Rockit track went through. It is possible the station will remain, although the Fast & Furious ride vehicles might be too big to fit through.

During his flyover, @bioreconstruct caught some concrete forms being moved into place.

Construction and prep work is also underway just behind Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Near Music Plaza, a concrete form has been placed just in front of the camera that was aimed at the big drop of Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. It is possible that the Fast & Furious ride photo could be in the same location.

Here are three more photos of work underway near Music Plaza.

There is dirt work and framing progress where the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit station used to be.

Coaster construction is visible from CityWalk. A walkway is still available around the construction zone, but it takes up a considerable amount of space, not just the former Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit footprint. The former Blue Man Group theater is untouched at the back of the site.

A series of completed concrete footers and forms have been placed around the area. The tall forms are in place to cast more concrete footers.

Some metal poles have been installed in the ground. These are surrounded by temporary yellow fencing.

Closer to the Universal Studios Florida entrance, another section of land is surrounded by caution tape. Inside this is a hole with prep work for footers. Crew members were on the scene when photos were taken.

Some larger rectangular concrete forms are also present in the Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift construction site.

Some electrical conduit work in the Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift construction site is behind yellow fencing.

Nearby the electrical conduit work, the latest sheet foundation cast for the roller coaster is seeing progress.

Closer to Hard Rock Cafe and the waterline are metal cylindrical frames, also for future footers. The attractions carpentry shop is located here, so much of the staging will occur in this area.

The first version of Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will open at Universal Studios Hollywood this year. It consists of 4,100 feet of track, sound reduction technology, and 360-degree rotation to create the sensation of drifting. Differences in land mean the Florida version of Hollywood Drift won’t be identical to the California version — it’s on a mountainside in California but will be in a long flat space in Florida. It will likely have the same theming and drifting effects, though. The announcement stated the new ride will open in 2027.
