REVIEW: Napa Rose’s Renovated Dining Experiences & Menu at Disney’s Grand Californian

Napa Rose reopens with a reimagined dining experience and menu at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. We share our honest thoughts after dining here during a sneak peek press dinner event.

Napa Rose was closed for most of 2025 to refurbish the restaurant. It reopens on February 6, 2026. Almost everything changed, from the dining spaces to the menus.

The main dining room and outdoor terrace offer a new prix fixe seasonal menu, custom wine pairings, and a new and enhanced children menu. The culinary director, Andrew Sutton, has been at Napa Rose since it opened in 2001. Clint Chin is the executive chef, while Patrick Kirchen is the wine director. Jess Soman is the general manager.

Restaurant Entrance

Walking into the restaurant, two displays on the wall feature photographs, tools, materials, figures, and more. Each piece is enclosed in a naturally-shaped frame made of metal.

Dinner at Napa Rose is an elegant yet laid-back dining experience. Guests are requested to dress in a manner consistent with the restaurant’s wine country ambience.

Examples of appropriate dinner attire include dress pants, jeans in good condition, collared shirts, dress shorts, sweaters, blouses, dresses and lifestyle shoes. They kindly request no hats, swimwear, tank tops, cutoffs or distressed jeans.

Bar & Lounge

French oak wood flooring extends throughout the entire restaurant, which you can see in the photo of the bar area above. The ceiling is compromised of several different materials and lines.

A large display behind the bar extends all the way up to the ceiling.

The bar and lounge offers walk-in availability and á la carte offerings for diners looking to enjoy cocktails, wine selections, and small bites.

Its menu rotates regularly based on the season.

There are plenty of spaces to sit and relax for a bit while enjoying beverages and small bites. Green marble, blue tile, and a beautiful mural tie in the California Craftsman aesthetic of the hotel and restaurant.

Nearby is the lounge, which has several spaces for groups to congregate. An oval rug sits in the center of the space while a chandelier hangs above.

A new fireplace sits in between booths and a wine display, allowing for a cozy and comfortable atmosphere. Leaf imprints from the trees at Golden Vine Winery inside Disney California Adventure are in the tiles.

There are three sets of booths, which are perfect for larger parties. Children are invited at Napa Rose, and a curated kids menu is available.

Private Dining Room

Napa Rose is reopening with a renovated dining experience and menu at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa.

Past the bar and lounge is the private dining room, which seats up to 16 guests. There are two sets of doors that can be closed to offer more privacy. This was moved from the rear of the restaurant closer to the front.

Dark woods, deep colors on the rug, and brown leather give the space a woodsy feel, but the space is brightened with the glass chandeliers that hang above the tables.

Various wines, bottles, and glasses are displayed inside glass cabinets.

Chef’s Counter

The Chef’s Counter offer up to 18 guests the opportunity to sit and dine in direct view of the dynamic exhibition kitchen, where the Napa Rose chefs personalize each course of your meal, based on seasonality and creativity.

The prix fixe menu here starts at $250 per person.

Main Dining Room

The main dining room consists of more dark woods, leather booths, and wine displays. Abstract chandeliers that resemble grapevines hang from the ceiling to provide elegant lighting.

A herringbone pattern gives the flooring a more visual contrast than the other spaces in the restaurant. Comfortable chairs surround the tales. A fireplace sits in the corner. Doors lead to the outdoor terrace.

Of all the spaces in the restaurant, the main dining received the least amount of refurbishment work.

Outdoor Terraces

Guests can dine outside for a patio ambience. A fireplace provides warmth on chilly days.

Enjoy the views of Disney California Adventure out here. In our opinion, this space is gorgeous and the most improved.

Another outdoor patio is located off the bar and lounge space. Stone covered columns, concrete tiling, and ambient lighting create the cozy atmosphere outside.

Food & Drink Review

Napa Rose is reopening with a renovated dining experience and menu at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa.

During the press dinner, our menu was pre-selected, as seen above. It was a bit different from the normal prix fixe menu because some items were a bit different. We also received a “third course” which was another food option from the second course. We also enjoyed the vegan menu. The vegan menu was a competition with all the chefs to create the best menu that consisted of:

  • a complete amino acid profile
  • a complete protein from start to finish
  • a winter menu (root veggies, mushrooms, carrots)
  • not trying to mimic non-vegan options

Amuse Bouche; Amuse Bouche (Vegan)

Signature Mushroom Cappuccino

This is a returning favorite. Chef Andrew Sutton said they wanted to keep something familiar for guests who have been to Napa Rose before. It’s a little cup of mushroom soup and we love it. It’s earthy, warm, and delightful.

Rating out of 7: 7

The vegan amuse bouche is a carrot soup with yuzu foam. This was our favorite of the vegan options. It was savory with a hint of sweetness from the carrot. The yuzu gave it a tart, bright finish.

First Course: Sautéed Seasonal Fish; Sautéed Root Vegetables (Vegan)

This was a well-cooked, solid dish. In hindsight, it didn’t stand out among the other courses.

The vegan option was sautéed root vegetables with a chiptole crema oil. We really enjoyed it. It had a bit of spice and made for a good first course.

Rating out of 7: 5

Second Course: American Waygu N.Y.; Beets (Vegan)

We weren’t wowed by the quality of the beef. It was tender but didn’t have much flavor. It was disappointing and the low point of the meal for us. The presentation was great, however, so was the presentation of every dish.

Rating out of 7: 3

The vegan beets with “sesame cloud” was great. It looked like a filet mignon but it was charred beats with sesame miso sauce underneath. It was small for the meal’s protein but meaty, savory, and flavorful. The beet balanced well with the miso.

Rating out of 7: 6

Third Course: Sorpresine Pasta; Buckwheat Noodles and Mushrooms (Vegan)

This is usually a second course option but was an extra third course for the press dinner. It has so much delicious crab. It’s maybe the best crab we’ve ever had. The broth had all the flavor of your usual heavy crab broth but without the actual weight. It was exceptional. And we loved the urchin bowl and decoration.

Rating out of 7: 7

Another vegan option is buckwheat noodles and mushrooms with miso broth. This was presented with a lid and the broth in a tea kettle. It was fantastic. We wish we could drink the broth right now. The oyster mushrooms were well done.

Entrée: Roasted Boneless Colorado Rack of Lamb; Mushrooms with Black Rice and Polenta (Vegan)

This is a great course. The lamb was presented two ways. One was like Beef Wellington in appearance. The lamb was in the center with an exterior coating. This was very good with a texture like meatloaf. Both pieces of lamb were solid with wintry, earthy flavors. It was a nice sized dish.

Rating out of 7: 5

The vegan entree is mushrooms with black rice and polenta. If you haven’t noticed, you do have to enjoy mushrooms to enjoy the vegan menu. The mushrooms weren’t too chewy, tough, or pungent. They were perfectly seasoned. The rice was great. It was like a black rice and mushroom pilaf. The polenta was creamy.

Rating out of 7: 7

Dessert: Valrhona Chocolate Bar; Chocolate Cheesecake with Strawberry Compote (Vegan)

The chocolate was very rich, and the textures were multi-layered and complemented each other well. There is crunch, soft mousse, and more going on. It was the right amount of sweetness with the hazelnut against the chocolate. It was a home run.

We have never had a vegan version of chocolate cheesecake, and this one was amazing. It was the better dessert of the two we tried.

Parting Nibbles

We received two chocolate bites, which is standard at signature dining restaurants. Of the Salted Chocolate and White Chocolate, we preferred the White Chocolate.

Rating out of 7: 7

Vegan parting nibbles were also provided for us, including Chocolate and Cherry and Milk Chocolate with Almonds.

Sequoia Skyline

Smoky grandeur towers in silky layers – campfire warmth and peppercorn sparks whisper forest tales beneath a crisp cloche of redwood mystery.

We loved this drink. Per the description, it does taste like something you would drink at a campfire. It’s an excellent, warm rye drink.

It also has a beautiful presentation when it is brought out.

Huntington Debate

Smoky and bold, this spirited debate crackles – mezcal and matcha spar playfully while fig offers sweet diplomacy under California’s melting pot sunset.

This was recommended by a server and it turned out to be a unique, fun cocktail. We don’t usually like mezcal cocktails but it was perfectly balanced with a hint of matcha. It’s easy to drink but strong and dangerous.

Big Sur “Ahh”

Waves crash, sage blooms – bourbon and mulled Syrah swirl into a coastal sour that whispers California’s rugged beauty.

This is a unique bourbon cocktail. It’s super drinkable and has a wintry feel. It was crisp and light compared to the other drinks.

Overall Thoughts

We really enjoyed that the indoor seating is now surrounded by 1500 international wine labels. It’s a beautiful nod to the restaurant and the state of California. The Disney Imagineers who worked on the reimagining has stated it’s hard to marry California Craftsman aesthetic and modern aesthetic, but it was done perfectly here. Overall, we are so happy with what they did here. It feels modern, but it still feels like the hotel and the California Craftsman aesthetic.

We were also very impressed with the food and drink menus. Everything is rated very highly, including 7/7 ratings for all three drinks and nine of the dishes we tried.

We would absolutely go again. While the price is very steep, we would still enjoy the bar and lounge, which offers walk-in availability and a small bites menu. Other seasonal menus would be interesting to try with different flavor profiles.
