Stormy weather and high winds caused a tree to fall on Main Street, U.S.A. during Sweethearts Nite on February 17.

Last night’s weather in Southern California included thunderstorms and up to 30mph wind during the very early hours. Also taking place was the sold-out Disneyland After Dark Sweethearts Nite special event, which ran until 1:00 a.m.

That means guests were still in the park when the tree — located near the Little Red Wagon Corn Dog Stand and the Plaza Inn Restaurant —fell directly across the guest walkway leading to Tomorrowland.

TikTok user @lizecsedy posted the news; we tried to find the source for the original photograph to give credit, but were unable to locate it.

The Orange County Register later reported that the falling tree, confirmed to be a ficus located on the Plaza Inn’s dining patio, struck a couple visiting from Nevada at around 11:40 p.m.:

“My husband and I were the ones hit,” LeWanda Joseph of Las Vegas wrote on the Disneyland Magic Keyholders Facebook group. “The tree fell directly on top of us.”

Fortunately, LeWanda and her husband Mark were not seriously injured, and Disneyland First Aid treated them on-site for “minor grazes”:

“We had just sat down to take photos at the table when the tree snapped and fell,” LeWanda Joseph wrote on Facebook. “We’re okay for now. The medical staff came through ASAP.”

The Disney Fire Department and other teams successfully removed the fallen tree overnight.
