Iconic music has always been a staple of the TRON franchise, and now it’s officially a Grammy Award winner. Nine Inch Nails (NIN) captured the Best Rock Song trophy for the song “As Alive as You Need Me to Be” from the TRON: Ares soundtrack.
Nine Inch Nails Win Grammy for TRON Song

The Best Rock Song accolade was presented to Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, the two permanent members of NIN, at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards on February 1, 2026. The song won over Hayley Williams (“Glum”), Sleep Token (“Caramel”), Turnstile (“Never Enough”), and Yungblud (“Zombie”). This is the third Grammy win for NIN out of 13 total nominations over the years.
Not only is “As Alive as You Need Me to Be” the lead single on the TRON: Ares soundtrack, it was also NIN’s first new song in five years upon its release in July 2025.
Previously, 2010’s TRON: Legacy soundtrack, composed by legendary French electronic duo Daft Punk (who also cameo in the film as the DJs in the End of Line Club), was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media; The TRON: Legacy soundtrack was officially certified platinum with over one million units sold on January 10, 2023.
Revolver noted in its review of NIN’s now award-winning TRON: Ares single that the song’s “vocoded backups [are] perhaps a nod to previous TRON scorers Daft Punk.”

‘TRON: Ares’

TRON: Ares was a box office bomb, earning only $142.2 million on an estimated budget between $180 and $220 million. Critics’ reactions were mixed, but the film’s score and original song by Nine Inch Nails, as well as its visual effects, earned mentions on the Oscars shortlist.
TRON: Ares is available for streaming on Disney+ alongside the first two TRON films and the TRON: Uprising animated series.

Some suggested the movie was just an advertisement for TRON Lightcycle Run at Magic Kingdom, which had a TRON: Ares overlay from September 2025 through January 2026 featuring red lighting and music from the NIN soundtrack.
