Disney Vacation Club has taken a definitive step in addressing DVC point rental. On March 31, 2026, DVC introduced a formal Policy Regarding Commercial Use of Vacation Points. This new policy clearly defines what constitutes commercial activity and, for the first time, outlines enforcement actions for violations.
This new rule implementation appears to be another step in the process Disney began in June 2025.
New DVC Renting Rules

The general intent of the new rule is to keep the fundamental purpose of DVC at its core: to allow members to use their membership for personal use. Essentially, the new rule breaks member actions into two categories:
- Allowable Use: Occasional rentals by Members who primarily use their points for personal vacations
- Commercial Use: Frequent or repeated rental activity, large-scale reservation patterns, or behavior resembling a business operation
This new rule doesn’t prohibit members from renting their points to others entirely, it just prohibits those who do so on a more commercial basis. In order to enforce these new conditions, DVC will utilize a few sets of standard flags:
- Booking multiple, overlapping reservations
- Creating more than 20 reservations in 12 months, which are not used personally
- Engaging in marketing or promotional activity while on the property
- Selling the majority of points to others rather than using them personally
Renting through a brokerage like our friends at the DVC Rental Store is still an acceptable option, and this should create peace of mind for DVC members who wish to occasionally rent their points. This update represents the clarity the DVC community has been asking for since the initial changes in June 2025.
At that time, the conversation centered around uncertainty—what exactly constituted commercial use versus allowable rental activity. With this new policy, Disney Vacation Club has now provided more defined guidelines and real examples, giving members a clearer understanding of where that line is drawn.
Rather than restricting responsible use, this update helps members move forward with greater confidence, knowing that occasional rentals remain permitted when they fall within those defined parameters. Ultimately, this creates a more transparent and informed environment where members can make better decisions about how they use their points.
Enforcement Actions

Members who are found to be in violation of the new guidelines will now face enforceable actions. These actions can be put in place for up to 24 months. Some of those penalties may include (but are not limited to):
- Blocking reservation modifications
- Canceling future reservations
- Disallowing the borrowing, banking, or transfer of points
- Halting incidental membership benefits
- Limiting reservations to:
- Only apply to the member
- Only to the home resort
Who Does This Impact?

Ultimately, the vast majority of DVC owners/renters will not be impacted by this change. The clarification largely affects those who utilize point rental as an individual business operation. Through brokerages like DVC Rental Store, owners are still able to reliably rent their occasional points and others are able to safely purchase the points to use towards their vacation.
