Walt Disney World has welcomed a new baby animal. The first Ankole calf born at the resort in over 20 years will soon appear at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Ankole Calf at Walt Disney World

The female calf was born to Winnie, one of Disney’s Ankole cattle. Dr. Mark Penning, Vice President of Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment, said both calf and Winnie “are in good health and will spend some time bonding behind the scenes” before appearing on the savanna.
Ankole is a breed of African cattle, part of the Sanga cattle group. They’re found throughout Burundi, Congo, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.
They are known for their horns, the largest and widest of any cattle species. The horns can reach up to eight feet wide from one tip to the other. The calf’s horns will start showing in a few months.
