Sugar painting, which was last offered for the 2019 EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, has returned to the park’s China pavilion. Live artists draw an animal-inspired treat with hot liquid sugar. It then hardens and guests can buy the intricate treats on a stick. But are they worth the hefty price tag?
China Pavilion Sugar Painting

Purchase these treats and watch artists create them in House of Good Fortune at the back of the China pavilion.

We saw a cast member crafting a bear out of sugar.

Here are the options and prices:
- Dragonfly / Swan / Kitten / Panda / Dog – $9
- Hummingbird / Butterfly / Owls / Horse / Bunny – $14
- Dragon / Phoenix – $25
Kitten Sugar Painting Candy – $9

We decided to get one of the cheaper options and ended up with this fuzzy kitten.
As you would expect, it tastes like torched sugar. Imagine the crust of a crème brûlée but bigger, thicker, and pricier.
It’s crafted well so it won’t break easily, although it may break your teeth.

And it is sticky. It comes in a plastic bag and was hard to remove or put back in (but at least you don’t need to buy a lollipop saver). Everything around you will stick to it — hair, leaves, bugs.

Kids will love eating this candy and adults will love taking pictures. It’s fun to watch the artists at work, too.
$9 is a bit much, however, and $25 is ridiculous.
