The official description says the show “follows a group of teenagers who uncover a hidden threat lurking beneath their everyday lives, all while juggling relationships, curfews, and the chaos of High School.” The Disney+ series will be written and executive produced by Bayan Wolcott, pictured above. Ryan Coogler, Sev, Ohanian, and Zinzi Coogler will also executive produce on behalf of Proximity Media.

Animorphs is 54-book series written by Katherine Applegate and her husband Michael Grant about a group of teenagers who save Earth from a parasitic alien race using the power to morph into any animal they touch by absorbing that animal’s DNA. The book series was published by Scholastic from 1996 to 2001.

Should the series continue to be developed, this would be the second TV show about the Animorphs. A live-action series aired on Nickelodeon for two seasons between 1998 and 2000. Animorphs would also join Percy Jackson, Eragon, and Goosebumps as the latest YA book-to-series Disney+ adaptation.
