Abby Rom, director of learning & destination development of Be Our Guest Vacations, spoke with us about her recent visit to Disney Adventure World at Disneyland Paris. She was part of the first-ever Americas-based travel agency familiarization (FAM) trip to Disneyland Paris.

“I was just really just kind of stunned and taken aback,” Rom said of seeing the World of Frozen for the first time. “[I] had to take a minute to collect myself and realize that I was really here. It’s so cool to be able to step into a story that means so much to have it feel so real.” As part of the FAM trip, Rom and the other invited travel agents were able to see the brand new Disney Adventure World park at Disneyland Paris, which just opened at the end of March.
After having visited the park for the first time in November, when it was still Walt Disney Studios park and construction walls were everywhere, the expansion made a big impression. Rom said that to be among the first guests to see the park so close to its opening was “amazing.”

“I have a daughter who was four when the first Frozen film came out,” she explained. “So, we have grown up with Frozen together.” Rom went on to say that Disney made even walking up to Arendelle from afar an experience. “…the lead up to Arendelle really builds that anticipation and the beauty that you can see as you’re walking down Adventure Way to get closer and closer to Arendelle.” That excitement culminated in the moment Rom saw the “Friendship Fountain,” frozen in ice by Elsa.

Those details are what make Disney Adventure World, in particular, a special kind of park. The lands and worlds “feel very immersive,” according to Rom, who noted that Disneyland Paris as a whole is adept at details. For instance, at The Regal View Restaurant & Lounge, where the princesses go to relax, several of them wear their rarely seen, less formal attire.

You could spend time just walking around the park, admiring the details, of which there are so many. “The attention to detail is incredible on the buildings,” Rom said. She later posited that perhaps the level of detail is a matter of guest comfort: “I do think it helps the guests feel both kind of at home at a park that’s going to feel unfamiliar, but then it also helps them experience something new.”

Getting lost in the details could be one reason why even those who have been to Disneyland Paris before may need to reconsider their time allocation for Disney Adventure World. People used to say that Walt Disney Studios park was a half-day park, but with the expansion and updates from Disney Adventure World, it is definitely a full-day park now, Rom said.

Especially for those who haven’t been to Disneyland Paris before, be prepared to be immersed. Disney Adventure World “is so much about taking you into the land of these stories,” Rom said. From dining with royalty at Regal View to meeting Arrendelle pals like Oaken, Olaf, and Mossy or spinning with Rapunzel, there is so much to see and do as you journey through Disney Adventure World.
