Disney Files Patent to Add Environmental Warnings for My Disney Experience App

With summer coming up hot and fast, Walt Disney World guests may soon receive customized environmental warnings within the My Disney Experience app based on their location and plans, according to a new patent.

Patent Published for Disney Weather Warning System

Disney Enterprises initially filed the patent with the vague title of “Predicting and Mitigating Effects of Environmental Conditions,” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on September 30, 2024, but it was only recently published on April 2, 2026.

The abstract reads as follows:

A system for predicting and mitigating an effect of environmental conditions, the system includes: a user device including a processor and a memory configured to: determine the environmental conditions for a location within an environment; analyze the environmental conditions in light of an individual-specific criterion to determine a predicted impact on an individual within the location during the determined environmental conditions; and generate a mitigation response based on the predicted impact.

In layman’s terms, Disney has devised a way to alert guests of potentially hazardous weather conditions based on where they currently are on Disney property and their upcoming plans. The app would then suggest modifications to the guest’s plans. The patent explains that “the prediction is based on at least one biological characteristic of the user and/or an activity schedule of the user” and cites “people or animals exposed to heat and humidity, particularly while engaging in an activity (e.g., walking, running, etc.), can develop heat stress or other biological conditions” as an example of how the system can be used.

The ultimate goal of the system is outlined as follows:

[To] allow many activities to be continued in a more comfortable and less harmful manner by helping to identify and prevent overexposure within a particular environment … [and to] allow construction workers, athletes, tourists, and the like to more efficiently, enjoyably, and productively maintain a desired activity schedule, even in harsh environmental conditions, such as hot, humid summer days.

As implied, the new technology is not just for guests. The patent indicates that “individual” refers to “a person, an animal, or a plant,” so Cast Members who care for the animals and plants would also use this alert system.
