Lime Green Water in Cinderella Castle Moat, Gold Trim on Tallest Tower Painted

It’s not the Chicago River on St. Patrick’s Day — it’s the Cinderella Castle moat in Magic Kingdom. There are a currently a few inches of lime green water on the Liberty Square side of the castle.

The moat is still mostly drained but this green water runs from the Liberty Square dam, under the bridge, and towards the castle. It doesn't fill the width of the moat. It's just sitting on one side.

This could be some kind of equipment malfunction that released coolant or some other fluid into the water, but most likely it is from tracer dye used for testing leaks in pipes and storm drain systems. These highly concentrated dyes are safe in small amounts but appear extremely vivid in water.

There is also new scaffolding and tarps on both sides of the moat. The tarps seem to all cover broken rocks.

We’ve seen the first signs of painting at the top of the castle’s tallest tower. While the rest of the castle was painted gray a few weeks ago, pink walls remain on the balcony where Tinker Bell flies each night. Though the pink still hasn’t been painted, some of its gold trim is now pale gray.

For the 50th anniversary repainting project, most of the castle’s trim was turned gold. With the restoration of the original color scheme, it is being painted over, but some gold will remain, including the tallest spire.

There’s now what appears to be a lift behind the construction walls at the back of the castle. We assume this is being used to reach the tallest towers and rooftops.

In addition to the pink and gold being painted over, the blue roofing is getting a refreshed shade.
