The major cruise ship builder, known for building several of Disney’s cruise ships, has revealed concept art for the first all-electric cruise ship titled Project: “Vision.”
Meyer Werft’s Project: ‘Vision’

Meyer Werft recently announced that at Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami, Florida, they will be presenting Project: “Vision,” the world’s first 100% battery-electric cruise ship. The ship will weigh more than 80,000 GT. The ship concept hopes to demonstrate how “sustainable innovations can redefine the future of the cruise industry.”

The battery system is supplied by Corvus Energy from Norway. Meyer Werft said that if the technology is ordered this year, they could deliver the first electric ship in 2031. A large portion of typical European cruise routes can be covered with the battery system.

The electric nature of the ship would also necessitate architectural changes, like the removal of the funnel on the sundeck, allowing unobstructed views on the top deck for passengers. The vertical shaft, typically running through the ship for exhaust treatment, would also be removed.

Another major advantage of the fully battery‑electric power would be fewer engine noises and vibrations on the ship, increasing onboard comfort for guests.
