The updated Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom has officially reopened, and with a brand-new scoring system and interactive targets, there are more ways to earn a high score and become a Galactic Hero.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin Scoring

The new ride vehicles have video monitors in front of guests displaying their real-time score, which no longer stops at 999,999. The coveted Galactic Hero rank remains, now for any score of 1,000,000 or higher.
- +1,000,000 | Galactic Hero
- 600,001 – 999,999 | Cosmic Commando
- 300,001 – 600,000 | Space Ace
- 100,001 – 300,000 | Planetary Pilot
- 10,001 – 100,000 | Astro Aviator
- 1,001 – 10,000 | Solar Navigator
- 0 – 1,000 | Star Flyer
High Score Tips

The upgraded interactive targets have lighting effects when hit so guests know when they’ve made the shot. Make sure to aim for the center of a target for the best chance of scoring.
The new handheld blasters make aiming easier and have always-on lasers, plus lighting, sound, and vibration effects. Each vehicle has a red blaster and a green blaster. This color will also appear on a target whenever you hit the center so you know you were successful.

Many of the attraction’s “secret” high-value targets remain in addition to new ones. Their values have decreased because the new blasters make them easier to hit, but they still provide a boost. Harder-to-hit targets, like those further away from the vehicle, are also worth more.
But any target could also become a high-value target when they light up in a special way.

Targets that randomly illuminate with a white outer ring are worth double their normal value. They stay that way until they’re hit.
You may also see a multicolor ring instead of white. This is the rarest and most valuable target. It appears at random, in only one location at a time, and if it isn’t hit within a few seconds, it vanishes and reappears somewhere else.
When you do hit a multicolor-ringed target, you and all guests in the vicinity enter a limited-time bonus mode. All targets in the scene are worth significantly more points for a brief period. The bonus period starts to end when the outer ring counts down by extinguishing counterclockwise.
At the end of the ride, a score bonus is distributed based on the number of distinct targets you hit. Hitting more unique targets creates a bigger score bump.
