Sports fans and anime addicts alike may find a lot to get excited for in this upcoming Disney XD series from the studio behind Droners.
Welcome to Asteria

Disney XD has shared an extended trailer for Dragon Striker, a new animated sports fantasy series that mixes high-stakes athletic competition with magical powers and a visual style that is distinctly inspired by Japanese animation.
The 11-episode series will premiere in full on Disney XD on June 9. Episodes will be available to stream the following day on Disney+ and Hulu.

Dragon Striker is set in a world where sports and magic are closely linked. The story follows Key, a farm boy who discovers he has an unusually powerful natural ability and may be the mythic, long-rumored “Dragon Striker.” His journey leads him to Kal Asterock, a prestigious academy for students with extraordinary talents.

At the school, Key teams up with Ssyelle, a goalkeeper trying to lead an underdog squad against Kal Asterock’s reigning champions. As Key learns to control the dragon-like force within him, Ssyelle works to keep the team from falling apart. Their quest gradually uncovers long-buried secrets and the threat of an ancient evil.
The voice cast includes Akshay Kumar as Key, Rebecca LaChance as Ssyelle, Yeukayi Ushe as Milo, Waylon Jacobs as Odward, and Evanna Lynch as Ameline.

Ahead of the full series debut, Disney will release Dragon Striker: Meet The Players, a collection of shorts introducing the characters and world of the show. The shorts will debut May 13 on the Disney Channel Animation YouTube channel and Disney+.
The series’ music was composed by Kevin Penkin, whose credits include “Made in Abyss” and “Star Wars: Visions.” Penkin recorded the score in Japan with an 80-piece orchestra. The opening theme, “Power of the Dragon,” was written and produced by Cash Callaway and performed by Sarah West. The end credits song, “The Very End,” was written and performed by Kieran Rhodes.
The series was first previewed at the Annecy Animation Festival and is produced by La Chouette Compagnie, the studio behind “Droners” and the upcoming “Dreamland,” in association with Disney Television Animation.
The creative team includes co-creator and executive producer Sylvain Dos Santos, co-creator and director Charles Lefebvre, and head writer Paul McKeown, whose animation credits span adventure series developed in France, Japan, and the United States.
