In late 2025, we first heard news that Universal Orlando’s Horror Make-Up Show would be closing in 2026 for a reimagining. While the original timeline was initially delayed, we now have the show’s confirmed closure date.

Universal Orlando’s Horror Make-Up Show Being Reimagined

We first reported in December 2025 that the Horror Make-Up Show would close after Saturday, January 4, 2026, with a reimagined version of the show was set to open later in the year “featuring classic and modern horror properties along with shockingly fun surprises – all while staying true to the comedic and irreverent vibe that guests love.”

Those plans were delayed, but not cancelled, as confirmed by a statement Universal sent to WDWNT, although they did not provide a date at that time.

Expedition Theme Park is reporting on X that Universal shared with Annual Passholders that the Horror Make-Up Show’s closure date is officially May 12. As we originally reported, it will return later in 2026 “with a reimagined show.”

Universal Orlando’s Horror Make-Up Show

Universal Orlando’s Horror Make-Up Show is an audience participation show that takes place in the Pantages Theater in the Hollywood section of Universal Studios Florida. After browsing a prop-filled lobby, guests step inside a “make-up studio” to watch two hosts recreate different special effects and make-up from Universal horror films.

A reimagining of the show with “classic and modern horror properties” may mean it would include newer properties like Terrifier or Blumhouse franchises. Right now, the most recent clips featured in the show are from the 2017 The Mummy.
