Disney Celebrates America

ABC and Good Morning America shared a short preview of some of the segments viewers can expect to see during the network’s broadcast of Disney Celebrates America, a 24-hour special broadcast commemorating the semiquincentennial of the nation.
The preview included a short snippet of an interview with Dr. George Bonanno, a leading clinical psychologist, as he discussed the unique concept of “American resilience,” describing the United States’ character as a “problem-solving, adaptive” country.

Other segments from the upcoming special will revisit harrowing moments throughout American history, including some scenes in the wake of natural disasters and the ways in which Americans have responded with strength, charity, and courage over our history.
In that segment, ABC will spotlight recovery, resilience, and community response that demonstrate the enduring American spirit.

The Good Morning America preview also teases a major focus on NASA and American space exploration. The preview includes interviews with the crew of the upcoming Artemis III mission to the Moon.

This latest preview follows earlier details released for Disney’s broader America 250 programming.
Before the 24-hour broadcast, ABC will air Disney Celebrates America: The Pursuit of Happiness, a two-hour primetime special on Monday, June 29, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. EDT. That special will be hosted by 20/20 co-anchor Deborah Roberts from Walt Disney World Resort and ABC News national correspondent Will Reeve from Disneyland Resort.
As previously announced, The Pursuit of Happiness will use Disney Parks locations as entry points into broader stories about American history, culture, innovation, and traditions. Segments will include Main Street, U.S.A., Cars Land, Toy Story Land, New Orleans, Pan Am, baseball, old Hollywood, and ABC News’ coverage of the Apollo 11 moon landing.
The special will stream the next day on Disney+ and Hulu, with an encore scheduled for Friday, July 3, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
Disney has also been celebrating the America 250 initiative in the parks with patriotic offerings, including themed Main Street, U.S.A. windows at Magic Kingdom, special entertainment, limited-time merchandise and food, and the limited-time Soarin’ Across America attraction overlay at EPCOT and Disney California Adventure.
