James Handy, an actor known for Disney’s The Rocketeer (1991) and more, has died after being stabbed on Wednesday.
According to Deadline, the LAPD responded to a call in Tarzana, California on Wednesday, June 3 at around 9:30 a.m. They found Handy unconscious in the front yard of a residence, having been stabbed in the chest. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The suspect, 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, apparently called 911, saying, “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.” He flagged down the responding officers to tell them he was the perpetrator.
Gledhill’s mother was Handy’s girlfriend. She and her son lived with the actor, LAPD stated.
Gledhill’s bail is set at $2 million.
Handy was 81-years-old. He played FBI Agent “Wooly” Wolinski in The Rocketeer. He also appeared in The Verdict (1982), Arachnophobia (1990), Jumanji (1995), Logan (2017), and Top Gun: Maverick (2022). The latter would be his last film appearance.
His career began in 1977 with a two-episode appearance in ABC soap opera Ryan’s Hope. Over the decades, he appeared in Quantum Leap, Murder She Wrote, Melrose Place, NYPD Blue, The X-Files, Law & Order, The West Wing, Alias, Criminal Minds, The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, Beverly Hills 90210, Walker Texas Ranger, and many more.
