An original fantasy series entitled Journey is coming soon from Higher Ground and Disney to stream on Disney+. Higher Ground was created by former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.

The new greenlit show announced on June 15, will be the first for Higher Ground since it became independent from Netflix in April. Journey was created by Matt Munn (Spies in Disguise, Ferdinand, The Peanuts Movie). It centers on a young heroine named Journey who must venture outside of her home when its energy shield fails.

“Journey is an epic adventure anchored by a remarkable young heroine whose courage inspires those around her,” said Ayo Davis, president, Disney Kids & Family, in a statement. “At its core, it’s a story about resilience, self-discovery, and the power of believing in something bigger than yourself — the kind of universal themes that have defined Disney stories for generations.”

Munn will be joined as executive producer by Steve Loter (Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Kim Possible) and Jessie Dicovitsky, who executive-produces with Higher Ground.

“Combining adventure, imagination and music, Journey is a true original that takes bold swings. We’re proud to partner with Disney on this fantastical series and to build on Higher Ground’s history of delivering fun and meaningful stories for kids and families,” said Dicovitsky, who serves as Head of Television for Higher Ground.

Some of Higher Ground’s previous animation projects included We the People, Ada Twist, and Scientist.
