As Disney+ continues expanding its international originals portfolio, it is now developing its first-ever Canadian Originals.
First-Ever Canadian Originals

The two Canadian originals joining the line-up at Disney+ are Knighted and I’m Not Coming Back. Knighted is a documentary-style series about a local dinner theater being developed by Bruce McCulloch (The Kids in the Hall) alongside Jackson Rowe and Mike Mildon (For Heaven’s Sake). The comedy is currently slated for eight episodes.
Of creating the show, McCulloch said: “I am so happy to be part of the first Canadian series for Disney+, and for viewers to get to know our creators. This is a really fun show, something wholly unique that I have never seen.”
I’m Not Coming Back, on the other hand, is a more serious docu-series. It focuses on one of the biggest manhunts in Canadian history, stemming back to a summer 2019 killing spree done by two teenagers. The logline reads: “When national police leads run dry, authorities enlist help from a member of the Fox Lake Cree Nation in a desperate pursuit of justice.”
That series is being produced by Joe Tuck (Running Smoke) and directed by Brent Hodge (I Am Chris Farley). Of this new endeavor, the two said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Disney+ on this special project. For this story, we’re going beyond the headlines of a news sensation that swept the country in 2019. While underpinned by tragedy, this docu-series gives us a chance to cinematically showcase the vastness of Canada from the Pacific Coast to Hudson’s Bay.”
This latest foray into international originals adds to the existing content, such as Disney+ K-dramas and Latin American originals.
