“Grow with Baymax!” Undergoing Removal or Repaint

The days may be numbered for a small but thoughtful Big Hero 6 mural in San Fransokyo Square at Disney California Adventure.

The “Grow with Baymax!” mural was located on the brick wall directly next to the baby care center located in San Fransokyo Square, on a corner of the Ghiradelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop.

The mural was first unveiled in September 2023, shortly after the former Pacific Wharf area was reimagined as San Fransokyo Square.

During our latest visit, we spotted a Cast Member painting over the mural with a bright red base coat. A temporary fabric barrier has been placed around the work area, blocking guests from approaching the wall while the project is underway.

The original mural featured vertical stripes in shades of purple, pink, and red, with the word “GROW WITH BAYMAX!” in English positioned on the upper left edge, and Japanese text roughly translating to “Let’s grow up with Baymax!” on the right side, placed over a depiction of Baymax himself.

Measuring rulers were painted along both sides of the design, encouraging younger guests to stand against the wall and check their height. The artwork also included Baymax holding a lollipop. Baymax, for comparison with guests, measured just over six feet tall.

It is not yet clear whether Disney is simply removing the “Grow with Baymax!” mural or preparing the wall for replacement artwork. The red paint currently being applied appears to cover the original design entirely, though the project was still in progress when our photo was taken.

San Fransokyo Square opened as a Big Hero 6-inspired overlay of the former Pacific Wharf area, with new dining updates, character meet-and-greets, and background details connecting the land to the fictional mashup city of San Fransokyo from the film.

Stay tuned for more updates as work continues on the wall, and let us know on social media what you think may be replacing the mural, or if you hope Baymax will return.
