The 7-Night Western Europe Cruise was a one-way sailing from Barcelona to Southampton from July 20 to July 27. A crew member became ill and was treated onboard then transported to Fátima Hospital during the ship’s stop in Vigo, Spain on Friday, July 24, according to Faro de Vigo.

The crew member, an Argentinian national, told medical staff on the ship that her water bottle was tampered with.

After she was discharged from the hospital, she filed a complaint with Spain’s National Police stating she had been poisoned, identifying another crew member as a suspect.

Spain’s Civil Guard boarded the ship to begin investigating. The water bottle was taken by authorities to be examined. Sources familiar with the case indicated the poison may have been chlorine, but this has not been confirmed.

The sailing continued as scheduled without interruptions.
