Disney has revamped the breakfast menu at Ale & Compass at Disney’s Yacht Club with several new additions: Avocado Toast “Lox,” Stuffed French Toast, New England-style Omelet, Breakfast Flatbread, and Hot Honey Chicken and Waffles.
Avocado Toast “Lox” – $19
Avocado, Smoked Salmon, Poached Eggs, Radish, Lemon-Beet Hummus, Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

The avocado toast is an upscale rendition of a classic. The toast is spread with a lemon beet hummus, which provides a significant sour kick to the overall flavor of the dish. If you have a beet aversion, you may shy away from this, but we will say that we didn’t taste any beets at all.

The poached egg on top provides a bit of protein and makes this a rather substantial entrée. We did not like that the sourdough toast crust is pretty tough, which made it hard to cut into.

Stuffed French Toast – $17
French Vanilla Stuffing, Seasonal Compote, with choice of Bacon or Sausage

This may be the best breakfast in the (Disney) world! We dare say it’s as good as Tonga Toast at Disney’s Polynesian Resort. The Parker House rolls are deep fried (which makes for a crispy texture) and rolled in cinnamon sugar coating. They remind us of the deep-fried Hawaiian Rolls at Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs at the Boardwalk.

The whipped cream accompaniment is almost unnecessary because the French Toast is so good on its own. We all loved it and almost fought over the last bites.

New England-style Omelet – $16
Roasted Mushroom and Herbed Cheese, Roasted Tomatoes, Bacon Lardons, Breakfast Potatoes

We are very divided on the omelet, mostly because half of us like mushrooms and half of us do not. The inclusion of Sun-dried Tomatoes, or as the menu refers to them Roasted Tomatoes, add a punch of flavor that was unexpected. We never would have thought to put Sun-dried Tomatoes in an omelet.

The flavor combination of the mushrooms, tomatoes, and cheese made the filling fantastic. The cheese is more of like a cream cheese with the addition of herbs. It melted and combined with the mushrooms and tomatoes very nicely. If you like mushrooms, you’re gonna love this. If you don’t like mushrooms, don’t order it.

Breakfast Flatbread – $17
Sausage Gravy, Bacon Lardons, White Cheddar, Eggs, Maple Syrup

This is a basic flatbread with relatively simple ingredients, but it’s a solid lighter option for guests who don’t want a heavy breakfast. This would be a great appetizer to share with others at your table. The one thing we thought was a bit odd was the fact that these eggs are poached, not scrambled.

Hot Honey Chicken and Waffles – $22
Crispy Fried Chicken, Mickey-shaped Waffles, Pickled Blueberries, Hot Honey Syrup

This is our least favorite of the new dishes. Our biggest complaint about this entrée is that the breading fell off the chicken as we were cutting into it. Hopefully this is something the kitchen can improve upon. Another thing to note is that this is Nashville Hot—not Disney hot—so it’s spicier than most other dishes at Disney World. This is about as hot as Disney gets.
The honey flavor did not come through as much as we would have liked. It would have helped to offset some of the heat.

The most interesting thing about this dish is the pickled blueberries. It’s hard to wrap your head around what a pickled blueberry is supposed to be, but the best thing we could come up with was that it taste like Christmas.
Overall, this dish did not wow us. There seem to be plenty of Chicken and Waffles entrees out there, so we were hoping for something different than the rest.
