REVIEW: We Tried All Three New Rice Bowls at Sunshine Seasons in EPCOT

Sunshine Seasons at EPCOT has new rice bowls on their quick service menu, and we tried all three meat and plant-based options.

Pork Carnitas – $12.49

Cilantro-Lime Rice, Black Beans, Onions, Peppers, Cotija, and Pico de Gallo

The pork is tender and well-cooked, but a little on the bland side. The cheese adds a nice sharp bite, the vegetables are fresh, there’s a right amount of black beans, and the rice is cooked perfectly. If the pork is too unseasoned for you, Sunshine Seasons is one of the locations at Walt Disney World where you can find hot sauce at the condiment station.

Beef Barbacoa – $13.49

Cilantro-Lime Rice, Black Beans, Onions, Peppers, Cotija, and Pico de Gallo

This dish is essentially the same as the previous one, just with beef instead of pork. The beef is perfectly seasoned and a little spicy, so people averse to spice may not enjoy this dish as much.

Plant-Based Sofritas – $12.49

Cilantro-Lime Rice, Black Beans, Onions, Peppers, Plant-Based Feta, and Pico de Gallo

This dish is just as good as the other ones, and the plant-based cheese tasted like real feta. Though this rice bowl is advertised as sofritas, it’s really just cubed tofu in terms of serving style. That said, this tofu might be the best in all of Walt Disney World. It’s deep-fried, a little crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the seasoning was smoky and a little spicy. We think this blows the Satu’li Canteen tofu dish away.

All around, all three dishes were solid entries at counter service items that feel like “real” food – filling and hearty, but not unhealthy. The pico de gallo was fresh, the onions and peppers were sautéed, and all three bowls have fantastic portions that will leave everyone full. Our dishes were also made in front of us despite it being one of the busiest times of the restaurant. We’re just sad that these dishes are only available until 4 PM, when Sunshine Seasons ends its regular hot lunch and dinner service daily.
