We recently returned to Toadstool Cafe at Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Hollywood to review a few items we hadn’t yet had the opportunity to try. We reviewed most of the menu when Super Nintendo World opened in January 2023, but this time we got the Super Mushroom Soup, Tomato Soup, and Chef Toad Short Rib Special.
Super Mushroom Soup – $19.99
Creamy mushroom soup with Super Mushroom crackers (Bowl included with purchase)
The presentation is what we came for! Soups come in mushroom bowls that you get to keep as a souvenir. They are also available to purchase separately in case you don’t want the soup.
The soups are in foil inside the mushrooms, so it’s easier to clean and keep the bowls.
You also get a question mark box to store your bowl in. The level of theming here is perfect.
The mushroom soup is super creamy and delicious. Packed full of flavor, this dish will satisfy your cravings while visiting the Mushroom Kingdom. The parmesan crisps are much better once they’ve softened a bit in the soup.
We would order the mushroom soup again anytime.
Tomato Soup in Super Mushroom Bowl – $19.99
Vegan tomato basil soup topped with micro basil, sliced mushroom, and truffle oil (Bowl included with purchase)
The tomato soup is served in the same bowl as the mushroom soup.
The tomato soup is topped by micro basil and a giant mushroom. The mushroom was our favorite part of the dish.
The soup is your basic tomato soup. As we said, the highlight was the mushroom in the center. If there was some sort of sandwich, this would have been a great side, but it’s almost too simple to be a main course. A few more mushrooms might have even improved it. There’s nothing wrong with it, but for as difficult as it is to get into Toadstool Cafe, there’s really no reason to order this unless you’re looking for a vegan option.
Chef Toad Short Rib Special – $24.99
Braised short rib, creamy goat cheese polenta, and red wine reduction
Toadstool Cafe offers your traditional burgers, but this braised short rib feels like it’s on the next level. The description sounded ambitious, so we were eager to see if Chef Toad could execute this dish to perfection.
The plating is lovely, with braised short rib served with the red wine reduction and goat cheese polenta. A parmesan cracker with Chef Toad sits on top.
The meat was extremely tender and just pulled apart with a fork. We didn’t even need a knife. Chef Toad has impressed us again.
Rich and hearty, this dish will leave you satisfied after a trip to Toadstool Cafe. We would order this again anytime.
