The newest injury report for Florida theme parks reveals guests at Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort experienced dizziness, loss of consciousness, and more.
Disney and Universal Injury Report
Major Florida theme parks are required to self-report guest injuries that require 24+ hours of hospitalization to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. The Department publishes a quarterly report of the injuries, with this most recent update covering April to June 2024.
At Walt Disney World, a 60-year-old male with a pre-existing condition complained of chest pain after exiting Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in Magic Kingdom on April 21. A 76-year-old female felt faint after riding TRON Lightcycle / Run on May 3. Still in Tomorrowland, a 39-year-old female with pre-existing conditions was disoriented when exiting Space Mountain on May 6.
On May 11, a 25-year-old female “lost consciousness and hit [her] head” while riding Humunga Kowabunga at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park. The report doesn’t clarify if the guest lost consciousness because of the head injury. Disney describes this waterslide as a “near-vertical, 5-story drop” of 214 feet.
A 42-year-old female with a pre-existing condition experienced back pain after exiting Frozen After at EPCOT. And a 69-year-old male with a pre-existing condition felt dizzy after exiting Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway in Disney’s Hollywood Studios on June 10.
Universal Orlando Resort provided slightly less detail in their reports, usually just stating the nature of the health concern and not clarifying if the guest was on or had exited the attraction. They list “dizziness” for a 64-year-old female at the Hogwarts Express on May 5. On May 22, a 78-year-old experienced “dizziness/loss of consciousness” at Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey in Universal Islands of Adventure.
There were three reported injuries at Universal Volcano Bay. At TeAwa The Fearless River, a 70-year-old male felt “chest pressure.” A 23-year-old female lost consciousness at Honu ika Moana, a raft ride. And an 8-year-old male experienced leg pain at Runamukka Reef, a water play area.
