Disney has officially set the theatrical release dates for two upcoming films: “Freakier Friday,” the sequel to the 2003 remake of the 1976 film, and the live-action “Lilo & Stitch” reimagining.
‘Freaker Friday’
According to Deadline, “Freakier Friday” will be released on August 8, 2025. Directed by Nisha Ganatra (“Shameless,” “Girls,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”), the sequel film will see Jamie Lee Curtis and Linsday Lohan return as mother Tess and daughter Anna.
Chad Michael Murray will reprise his role as Anna’s original love interest, Jake. Other original cast members Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Michell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao will also return. The film, which began production earlier this summer, has already wrapped.
Live-Action ‘Lilo & Stitch’
The live-action “Lilo & Stitch” will hit theaters sooner, on May 23, 2025. Newcomer Maia Kealoha stars as Lilo in the film directed by Dean Fleischer Camp (“Marcel the Shell with Shoes On”), which was originally developed for Disney+. The cast also includes Zach Galifianakis and Billy Magnussen.
