Rolling planters have been set up around the outdoor queue of the theater that will soon house “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Rolling planters have been set up all around the theater, blocking the view of the queue area. This building will soon be home to the new show, “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure.”

The planters extend past the Animation Courtyard Theater building to shrubs in front of the building that houses Walt Disney Presents.

Peeking behind the rolling planters, we could see the queue area. Although there was not much in view, it doesn’t appear that much work has taken place. In our last update, we observed that almost everything from the outdoor queue had been removed, including benches and railings. The spots where FastPass+ “tapstiles” once sat had construction boxes covered in scrim.

Props of fish and grass remain intact behind the rolling planters, as well as the decorative topiaries.

Two more fish props are visible over the shrub planters in front of the queue space.

The side of the theater building remains devoid of any signage. In March, the “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” billboard was removed from the building ahead of the new show, which opens next month. Up until that point, the billboard had been in place since 1992 when the show first debuted. “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” never reopened after closing during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and Disney confirmed its permanent closure in December 2023.

“The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” replaces the former “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” and opens on May 27, 2025. The show will feature puppets, digital characters, and more in a new adaptation of the classic Disney animated film “The Little Mermaid.”

Disney has stated that when the show opens, it will “feature stunning new set pieces, cutting-edge effects, and a bold new design that captures Ariel’s imagination and emotions through her unique view of the world around her.” The show will include the same songs from “Voyage of the Little Mermaid” plus a new song, “Daughters of Triton.”
