Viking Training Camp
About
Read the official description below.
At Viking Training Camp, junior Vikings will discover all types of dragons in this sprawling, colorful, interactive play area. Adventures include multiple towers to climb and explore, a fun agility course, Viking drums and chimes to play, an interactive sheep launcher game, plus slides and activities for the youngest Vikings.
This is a playground of interactive features, slides, and climbing structures.
Attraction Information
- Type: Kids’ Play Area
- Size restrictions: None
- Accessibility: Guests may remain in standard wheelchair throughout.
Location
Entrance

The entrance is framed by several curved, carved dragon figures in different colors, creating an open archway. There are planters to the sides of the entrance and throughout the play area, adding some natural foliage to the space.
The play area has rubbery flooring in shades of beige and green.

Guests are immediately greeted by a structure resembling a ship’s bow. The architecture of the play area mostly has wood finishes with fun painted designs. The upper walkways are lined with netting.
Map

Under the entrance structure are various shields emblazoned with painted dragons, all hanging on carved dragon tails. There are also two signs. One lists safety information, while the other is a map of the camp.

The map looks like it’s hand drawn on various scraps of parchment, all pinned together to make a larger image. Matching artwork is found on signs throughout the camp, labeling each interactive feature.

A copy of the map is also posted near the back of the play area.
Warnings

According to the posted warnings:
- Shoes must be worn at all times.
- No running or horseplay.
- No climbing.
- One rider on a slide at a time.

- No standing on slides.
- Keep clear of the slide landing areas.
- No strollers in the play area.
- Children under 48″ must be accompanied by a Supervising Companion at all times. Adults must be accompanied by a child.

There are also warning signs throughout the play area, marking areas as dangerous and reminding guests there is no climbing, sitting, or standing on rocks or railings.
Experience
Baa-llista

Each interactive element has a “class” rating and a descriptive adjective, similar to the in-universe classes for various dragons. Baa-llista near the entrance is a “ludicrous” Class 5 game in which “Dragon racers earn points by tossing sheep into baskets. Launch sheep into the air to learn how to aim like a racer!”

This area is comprised of four levers and cannons pointing through a tall net.

Guests use the cannons to launch white and black balls featuring sheep faces.

The targets at the back of the game feature painted dragon faces in various colors.
Dizzying Dragons

Dizzying Dragons is an “Adventurous” Class 4 attraction: “Practice fast twists and turns on these colorful spinning dragons! Pick your favorite dragon and hold on tight!”

This is three carved dragon figures on a spinning platform. Each is carved like a different dragon species: the blue and red figure is a Deadly Nadder, the red and gold figure is a Monsterous Nightmare, and the green figure is a Hideous Zippleback.
Toothless Totter

The Toothless Totter is a large toy version of Toothless, complete with a wooden head and metal elements. His feet, tail, and wings are printed on the rubber ground.

There’s a seat built-into the figure behind Toothless’ head.

Over his wings is a netted see-saw structure, which has curves and rounded edges.
How To Train Your Viking Course

At this “Treacherous” Class 5 course, “Dragon riders have to be ready for anything! Beware of rolling barrels and wobbling shields on Berk’s toughest obstacle course!”

The “course” consists of three wobbly shields on the ground, a thin snaking platform between two posts, and a rolling barrel between two other posts. The posts are orange with metallic elements, flags, and shields.

The rolling barrel has handles above it to help with balance. Each wobbling shield has a different, unique design based on the shields from the films, some of which are also sold as merchandise.
Gigantikus Maximus Nest

This is a “Humongous” Class 2 play set: “Some dragons start small, while others are big babies! Climb inside our largest nest and picture yourself in an egg!”

It’s a structure consisting of large “eggs” of varying sizes, colors, and textures.

Two of the eggs are “broken” open so little ones can climb through them.
Shipwreck Slides

Shipwreck Slides is a “Disastrous” Class 2 play set. “A Scauldron sneezed onto this ship and caused the ship to dip and flip. Make the best of this wreck by sliding on deck!”

This area consists of two halves of a viking ship sitting on a blue section of flooring. The ship has a carved dragon bow with its tail at the stern.

The back half has a short set of steps leading up to two yellow slides. These are small, open-air slides.

The front half has another small slide. This one has a tube-style entrance but is also open at the bottom.

Nearby are three figures of baby Gronckles.
Restrooms & Water Fountains

Behind Shipwreck Slides are the playground’s dedicated restrooms. There are two family restrooms, which feature Viking silhouettes on their signs.

An AED is also mounted on this structure in case of emergencies.

There are multiple water fountains and bottle fillers located throughout the playground.
Thunder Drums of Thunder

The Thunder Drums of Thunder are a “Thunderous” Class 3 interactive feature: “These traditional Berkian drums are used for ceremonies and festivals. They’re also just fun to play, so join in!”

The drums are found on a landing at the top of a ramp, leading up to the higher levels of the playground.

Each drum has an image of a dragon on its top. Their sides resemble intricately carved and painted wood.
Warning Friendship Bells

Next to the drums are the “Harmonious” Class 3 Friendship Bells: “We used to ring these bells in fear of dragon attacks, but now they signal fun and games.”

The bells are hung on large metallic cylinders. Guests can ring them using gears, levers, and pulleys on the nearby support system.

Each bell displays a different dragon logo.
Slides, Nets, & Tunnels

The structures of Viking Training Camp are located on multiple levels. Below one platform is a pair of yellow tunnels.

There’s a net structure with holes guests can climb through.

Accessible on the second level of this tower is a blue curly slide.

A three-story yellow slide is found on another tower. The towers are connected by bridges and have stairs leading up the structures to different levels.

There’s a small, barrel-shaped tunnel on the ground.

Another set of stairs is built into the rockwork along the edge of the playground.

Similarly, there’s a ramp in the rockwork nearby.

Alongside the regular walking bridges connecting the towers are some net bridges. One is an enclosed tube held up by rings.

Another net bridge is V-shaped. Both are designed for young children, not adults.

Signs above the slide entrances remind guests that they should slide down feet first. There should only be one rider on a slide at a time.

From the upper levels of the camp, guests get great view of Berk, including Dragon Racer’s Rally and Hiccup’s Wing Gliders. You can also see Stardust Racers in Celestial Park.
Howling Horns

One of the activities on the upper platforms is the “Cacophonous” Class 2 Howling Horns: “Every dragon has a unique call, and so do these horns! Sound the horn to hear a roar from each of the seven classes of dragons!”

This is a group of seven columns, each topped with a carved dragon’s head. The seven dragon classes are Boulder, Mystery, Sharp, Stoker, Strike, Tidal, and Tracker.

Each column has a button that activates a sound unique effect.
Eggsceptional Eggs

The Eggsceptional Eggs are a “Miraculous” Class 1 feature on the upper levels. “We take care of all kinds of dragon eggs, from Ke-cold to Flightmares to Buzzing Death Songs! See and feel the differences between them!”

This is a large basket of different colorful dragon eggs, intended as a more relaxed sensory experience.
