Live-Action ‘Lilo & Stitch 2’ In Development
The news was first announced via social media by Disney and Walt Disney Studios:
In the video, Stitch drives around in a tiny pink convertible around the Disney studio lot, shouting, “Get ready. Here we go!” as he skids around the parking lot to spell out “Lilo & Stitch 2.”
The announcement of the sequel comes as the reimagined take on he animated classic has grossed over $910 million globally, and is on pace to become the first billion-dollar blockbuster of 2025.
No further details have been shared regarding any returning cast and crew, the plot, or a release window.
There is an animated “Lilo & Stitch” sequel, titled “Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch.” Released in 2005, this direct-to-video animated film sees Stitch experience “malfunctions” related to his former evil programming. Though the malfunctions nearly end Stitch’s life, Lilo’s love for her alien friend saves his life and ends the “glitch.” It is unknown if the sequel will reimagine this plot or offer a brand-new story.

The live-action “Lilo & Stitch,” directed by Dean Fleischer Camp (“Marcel the Shell With Shoes On”), has seen some controversy due to major changes from the original film — like removing Gantu to make Jumba an irredeemable villain and Pleakley no longer dressing in drag. Fleischer Camp even saw his name in headlines for stating that “People do get left behind” when addressing criticism of the film’s changed ending.
