Pirates of the Caribbean, located in Adventureland at Disneyland Paris, opened in 1992. Like other versions of the attraction around the world, it was updated in 2017 to add Captain Jack Sparrow and Captain Barbossa from the film franchise of the same name. It has now undergone a refurbishment to update props and animatronic scenes throughout the ride.

Pirates of the Caribbean Reopens in Disneyland Paris

Disneyland Paris’s version of Pirates of the Caribbean has reopened after being closed for refurbishment from June 23 to July 11, 2025. Among the refreshed props are the pigs from the iconic town scene and several apples, which were recreated from scratch after going missing from locations around the attraction. Designers compared the appearance of the attraction to original design sketches and images to figure out where the missing props were supposed to be located.

Although oxymoronic, new dust has been added to the attraction, along with other updates to the attraction’s lighting, animatronics, and special effects. The post included a behind-the-scenes look as a few of the processes for making the attraction look refreshed.

New and returning costume pieces have also been refreshed, including the “most beautiful” hat for Pirate Redd, which is one of the last real leather hats in the attraction. The Cast Members mention that since it is made of leather, the hat must be cared for in a specific way to keep it from showing wear.

A new blue bandana inspired by a design from Marc Davis, one of the original Imagineers behind Pirates of the Caribbean, has also been added to one of the animatronics. Cast Members can be seen tying it around the head of an animatronic figure wearing a yellow jacket.
