International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences stated Walden was chosen to receive the award “in honor of her transformative impact on the media and entertainment industry, and the incredible global impact of the shows she has overseen.” The International Academy will present Walden with the award at the 53rd International Emmy Awards Gala on Monday, November 24, in New York City.

The International Emmy Founders Award, one of two special awards presented by the International Academy each year, “celebrates the accomplishments of an individual or organization, whose work is recognized throughout the world, embodying the vision of the founders of The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, crossing cultural boundaries to touch our common humanity.” Past recipients include Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey, J.J. Abrams, Shonda Rhimes, and Ryan Murphy.

“Dana Walden’s contributions to entertainment are truly remarkable, having shaped the creation and success of numerous iconic and award-winning television series,” said International Academy President and CEO Bruce L. Paisner. “Her leadership, first as CEO of Fox Television Group and now as Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment, has played a pivotal role in influencing the global industry. We are delighted to recognize her exceptional work and lasting impacts with the Founders Award.”

“It’s an extraordinary privilege to be recognized by the International Academy,” said Walden. “I’ve worked with some of the most talented creators and executives in the world – people who care deeply about storytelling and its power to connect audiences across the globe. This recognition reflects their passion and dedication, and I am very proud of what we’ve accomplished together.”

Walden is co-chairman of Disney Entertainment with Alan Bergman. Walden oversees global television and streaming, including Disney+ and Hulu. The Walt Disney Company received a record-breaking 60 Emmy Awards in 2024.

Walden is one of the frontrunners to potentially replace Bob Iger as CEO of The Walt Disney Company. Though early reports indicated she was the favored candidate, more recent reports have stated Disney Experiences chairman Josh D’Amaro is poised to take over.
