Sheriff’s Office Uses Drones to Monitor Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend

Orange County Sheriff’s Office used drones to monitor the 2026 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend, the first time they’ve provided drone security for runDisney races.

Four drone pilots worked the event with authorization from the Federal Aviation Administration. Drones are prohibited on Walt Disney World property.

Orange County Sheriff’s Office shared photos of the four Walt Disney World theme parks and the runners taken by drone pilot Corporal Andrew Pupo.

The Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend consisted of a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and Marathon from January 8 to January 11. Participants ran through the theme parks, in backstage areas, and along closed roadways.
