Although Japan has done incredibly well compared to other nations in controlling COVID-19, a massive spike of the highly contagious UK variant of the coronavirus has led Osaka Prefecture and two surrounding areas to declare a third State of Emergency. And updated guidelines for this emergency include provisions to close Universal Studios Japan starting April 25th to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Osaka. No reopening date has been announced yet.
This is in line with predictions made earlier this week, when Osaka Prefectural Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura announced his intent to close theme parks as part of his State of Emergency request. The news was delivered via a press release from Universal Studios Japan to Universal Parks News Today.
Universal Studios Japan is now the first Universal Parks & Resorts property to re-close due to COVID-19, after being the first to close and second to reopen in June last year. It is now the only Universal property closed worldwide.
We will update this story as it develops. Hopefully the Osaka area will make it out the other side of this quickly so Guests can safely return to Universal Studios Japan. Stay tuned to UPNT for the latest.
“Although Japan has done incredibly well compared to other nations in controlling COVID-19..”
Seriously? Less than 1% of their population has been vaccinated.
If things don’t turn around quickly, I could see them cancelling the Olympics.
when someone tells me to wear masks
