The holidays have swept their way into Disney California Adventure, which means its time for treats old and new. Today, we’re looking at some returning favorites at Schmoozies!
Peppermint Shake — $8.49
Topped with whipped cream and chocolate creme cookies.
Last seen in 2019, the Peppermint Mickey Shake itself is a peppermint chocolate creme cookie ice cream. The peppermint taste was the strongest flavor note here, but there were hints of cookie infused in this shake. It was delicious, and the peppermint was not overdone, which led to a refreshing taste.
The shake is topped with red and white whipped cream to resemble a Santa hat. There is also a small marshmallow on the top portraying the puff ball that is usually on Santa’s hat. Can’t forget Mickey ears, of course! The ears are made of “chocolate-filled cookie ears,” better known as Oreos. The whipped cream was light, but very sugary. If you’re not a fan of whipped cream, I recommend you try something else or ask them to hold on the whip, as there is a lot of it topping this shake.
The lining of the edge of the cup is covered in red, white, and green sprinkles. These sprinkles completed the aesthetic of the shake, but didn’t add much flavor. When we sipped the shake from the side, most of the sprinkles remained attached to the cup.
The cookies were a bit soggy from sitting in the shake after a while.
The whipped cream melted into the shake, making it a tad bit sweeter, but we didn’t mind. Overall, this was a delicious holiday shake. The flavors all complimented each other, and it was a very generous portion.
Holiday Affogato — $6.49
Peppermint ice cream with a shot of espresso
This energizing offering was first seen in 2018. If you love coffee, then this is the dessert for you! This dessert is a Christmas version of Affogato featuring a scoop of peppermint ice cream with a shot of espresso poured over it. The sweetness of the ice cream and the bitterness of the espresso blend very well together. The sugar content and the espresso makes this the perfect pick-me-up during a long day at the parks! This should be on your list if you love an espresso flavor! This was a personal favorite.
Mocha Almond Fudge Shake — $8.49
With chocolate peanut rim, topped with whipped cream
Returning from the 2020 Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival, this shake is great! The strongest flavor was mocha, but being paired with subtle notes of almond made it all the more delicious.
The whipped cream was sweet, but not too sweet, and was a little bit thicker, which we liked. It was a nice appetizer to the main course of the actual shake. The consistency of the shake was very smooth and not too dense, a welcome sight on this warm afternoon.
The shake was topped with a peanut and chocolate-encrusted toffee dipper that was just the right amount of candy to go with our shake.
The nuts around the outer rim are nice to look at, but somewhat impractical to the shake and didn’t contribute anything. As a walk-around drink, it was difficult to eat them off the rim or scoop them with a spoon without making a mess. Overall, this shake was an absolute smash and was a great value for the price.
Mocha Almond Affogato — $6.49
Mocha almond ice cream with a shot of espresso
This coffee-based dessert, though somewhat unsightly, was absolutely delicious.
Mocha espresso surrounding a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with a almond bits––what more could you ask for?
Being an espresso-based drink, it was a bit watery, but its flavor was great and not bitter. This was an easy drinker; any coffee lover would love this twist on the affogato.
