Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disney’s Magic Kingdom has closed for a routine refurbishment today. Disney has announced that guests could expect to hit the rails again on Friday, January 13, when the ride is scheduled to reopen.
The entrances and exits have been blocked off. A sign out front warns guests that the mine is closed due to an infestation of mountain goats. In keeping with the theming of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, the sign recruits “miners with herding experience.”
We first brought news of this scheduled refurbishment last month. January is a common time for refurbishments as the weather is generally more temperate and there are fewer visitors.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed for refurbishment last January 2022 and several months before a summer refurbishment went as scheduled.
