REVIEW: The Honey Bee-stro Leaves Us in a Honey Daze at the 2023 EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival

The Honey Bee-stro, as the name suggests, is an outdoor kitchen at the 2023 EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival that centers around honey. Honey in many, many different forms. Sweet honey, savory honey, dehydrated honey, this booth has it all.

This looks burnt, but it must be something they put on the outside. The chicken is bland and looks gray inside. The only thing that has a ton of flavor is the honey sauce. It’s sweet and spicy.

There are quite a few corn bits giving it a cornbread taste. It reminded us of a hush puppy shaped like a waffle. It’s a little moist inside but not enough. This dish isn’t a win.

*NEW* Pollinator Flatbread – $6.25

with Honey Whipped Mascarpone, Honey Caramelized Onions, Blueberry Gastrique, Prosciutto, Honey Whipped Goat Cheese, Arugula, Honey Vinaigrette, and Bee Pollen

There is so much happening in this dish that we can’t pinpoint anything specific. We can taste the prosciutto and the blueberries on their own. The mascarpone and the goat cheese are the highlights.

There is no base sauce or layer of cheese. It’s just a piece of bread with everything thrown on top. We don’t like the bread on its own, but it gets lost in the shuffle. This is just too busy, and not good enough to justify it. Pass on this.

Honey-Mascarpone Cheesecake – $5.00

We loved this dessert and dare say that it is one of the best things at the festival. This light and airy dessert has the perfect touch of sweetness. The mascarpone is slightly grainy, but we don’t dwell on that for long as we devour the honey cheesecake. We highly recommend this dessert.

B. Nektar New Wave Lemonade Mead, Ferndale MI (6.4% ABV) – $5.50 for 6 oz. $9.50 for 12 oz.

According to B. Nektar, New Wave Lemonade Mead is brewed with “orange blossom honey, blueberry & lemon.” It’s “light magenta, clear to slightly hazy with a lacey head that dissipates to the rim,” and has an aroma of “distinct blueberry and funky honey notes with hints of citrus.” Tasting notes include “sweet blueberry and creamy honey followed by notes of blueberry ski and tart lemon. Medium body with a soft mouthfeel and balanced acidity. Mildly tannic and slight lingering sweetness on the finish.”

From Florida Orange Groves Winery: “Made with Florida’s special Orange Blossom Honey! Honey wine is sometimes called Mead, and ours is the sweetest and best tasting of them all!”

Envisioning a honey wine, we expected a sweet white wine. What we received was a white wine that had a medicinal quality to the taste. One sip per person around our group was more than enough.

Honey-Peach Cobbler Freeze with Blueberry Vodka and Streusel – $12.50

Topped with crumbs to give the impression of a peach cobbler, this freeze delivers on multiple fronts. The blueberry vodka mixed well with the honey and peach frozen beverage. All of the flavors combined to create a drink that tasted like a peach cobbler. A truly unique item for this booth and one that’s worth a try as the alcoholic version with the blueberry vodka. We’re unsure how the drink would work without the blueberry.

The EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival will be running from March 1 to July 5, 2023.

Although we’re mourning the removal of the Spike the Bee sipper, we still recommend checking out this booth for its many honey-centric dishes, as they’re very good.
