Walt Disney World will be hosting the first-ever “Once Upon A Wish Party” during World Princess Week this August for Make-A-Wish kids and their families.
Once Upon A Wish Party
World Princess Week takes place from August 20 through 26. The Once Upon A Wish Party will be a “full day affair filled with enchanting surprises, inspiration and adventures fit for a hero or heroine.”
The ball will include tea, treats, and character meet-and-greets. Wish kids will be proclaimed royalty for the evening.
Disney and Make-A-Wish are currently in the process of delivering invitations to the event.
This week, Cast Members, Minnie Mouse, and the Make-A-Wish team visited Ventura Elementary School in Florida to let 7-year-old Scarlett know she was invited to the ball. Scarlett had wished for a “Disney Princess experience.”
“She’s going to have this super special experience and be able to go to the royal ball as a princess … I know she’s going to enjoy every single second of it,” Scarlett’s mom said. “To see her happy and completely fulfilled is every mother’s dream. It means so much that she’ll be able to experience life as a normal kid at a theme park where we don’t have to think about a lot of the medical stuff that has consumed our lives in the past.”
“Disney is the largest wish granter in the world, and over our more than 40-year relationship, we’ve granted some pretty incredible wishes together,” Leslie Motter, Make-A-Wish America President and CEO, said. “Whatever Disney does, they go all out. I can’t wait to see the new happy memories Scarlett and our other attending wish families will be able to make at what is sure to be an unforgettable event.”
World Wish Day & Make-A-Wish
Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted more than 520,000 wishes for children globally since 1980. Their wishes assist children with relieving traumatic stress, improving emotional well-being, creating a turning point in their treatment, giving strength to fight an illness, and promoting better health outcomes. This is done by providing memorable experiences and positivity in their lives.
World Wish Day is a yearly Make-A-Wish event that celebrates more than 40 years of giving life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses and bringing delight to their families. World Wish Day takes place on April 29, in honor of the first wish that inspired the creation of the nonprofit. To celebrate World Wish Day this year, Make-A-Wish America granted their 150,000th Disney wish. Disney also revealed their new upcoming Make-A-Wish license plate.
Disneyland celebrated World Wish Day by displaying a trio of new windows on Main Street, U.S.A. dedicated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This is the company’s first window dedicated to a nonprofit company.
Last year, all Make-A-Wish children were dubbed the “Godchildren” of the Disney Wish cruise ship.
Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro was appointed to the national board of directors for Make-A-Wish America earlier this year.
