REVIEW: New DOLE Whip and Boba Pearl ‘Elemental’ Floats at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Two new “Elemental” floats inspired by the main characters of the new Pixar film are now available at Epic Eats in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Epic Eats is next to the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular.

Ember’s Fiery Float – $6.49

DOLE Whip Mango with chamoy-mango purée, chili-lime seasoning, and red bubble sugar

On day one, Disney has already given up on the presentation of this float as the bubble sugar looks nothing like the promo photo. The sugar itself is rock-hard and we don’t recommend biting into it unless you want to go to the dentist.

The float itself is great. It’s the perfect combination of tart mango and spicy Tajín-like seasoning. Just don’t eat the sugar.

Wade’s Cool Blue Float – $6.49

Vanilla soft-serve, Sprite, blueberry boba pearls, flavors of cotton candy, and a meringue wave

This is another enjoyable float with an awful topping. The meringue wave is inedible. It tastes like dehydrated raw egg whites.

The float should please many as it is simply vanilla ice cream in Sprite with a hint of the promised sugary cotton candy flavor. You can’t drink the boba balls through the straws available at Epic Eats, but once you spoon them out, they offer a pleasant explosion of artificial blueberry flavor.

Both of these are fine and refreshing on a hot summer day but take your photos fast before they melt.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios also has an “Elemental” photo op in Pixar Place.

‘Elemental’

Ember and Wade in Pixar's Elemental

“Elemental” is the latest Pixar film to arrive in cinemas since 2022’s “Lightyear,” and is directed by Peter Sohn — who previously directed “The Good Dinosaur” and voiced Emile in the 2007 film “Ratatouille.” Pixar’s Twitter page describes this new adventure’s main concept:

In a city where fire, water, land, & air residents live together, a fiery young woman & a go-with-the-flow guy will discover something elemental: How much they have in common.

In an interview with Variety, Sohn, who also conceived the story, drew parallels between the friction the two main characters have with their families when they begin venturing outside of their own elemental culture with his own personal life as the child of Korean immigrants.

It’s the burden of culture and passing the torch of carrying a piece of heritage inside of you and trying to decide what to do with that heritage. I have kids that come from different, mixed cultures. I’m Korean and my wife is half-Italian, part- German and part-English. The feeling of it can sometimes be like a burden. I wonder if I am I breaking the chain in my life because I’m not pushing the Korean language and culture. And our main character, Ember, even though her culture is fictional, she’s dealing with very similar issues of trying to understand her life in a place that was not her parents’ home.

The film stars Leah Lewis as Ember and Mamoudou Athie as Wade. It’s produced by Denise Ream.

“Elemental” is in theaters today. Watch the trailer below.
