Toy Story Land soft opened the evening of June 29th at Hollywood Studios. We were fortunate enough to visit and experience the attractions (check out our POV of Slinky Dog Dash and Alien Swirling Saucers) and also get dinner at the new quick service offering Woody’s Lunch Box.
According to the Walt Disney World website… ”
Lasso your hunger with a meal from Woody’s Lunch Box—opening soon for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
During your upcoming Toy Story Land adventures, be sure to drop by this food stop for a toy-riffic meal. Dishing out all sorts of tasty treats for “honorary toys,” Woody’s Lunch Box features classic American fare, old-fashioned soda floats and other Toy Story-themed specialties.”
We lasso’d up our hunger and ordered the full menu.
Raspberry Lunch Box Tart – Raspberry Marmalade stuffed Pastry coated in a Strawberry Fondant and Crispy Pearls -$3.29
Comparing these to the previous incarnations at Epcot’s International Festival of the Arts in 2017 and 2018, these are enormous. And they’re slightly better, although there isn’t much competition.
Chocolate-Hazelnut Lunch Box Tart – Chocolate-Hazelnut stuffed Pastry coated in Maple Fondant and Candied Bacon -$3.29
The second of the lunch box tarts is chocolate hazelnut, and oh boy is it. It’s stuffed with a filling that taste like Nutella. The maple fondant and candied bacon make this one a heartier option and the saltiness works well with the chocolate. That being said, these are very skippable compared to the rest of the menu.
BBQ Brisket Melt -Sliced Smoked Brisket, Pickles and tangy BBQ Sauce between melted Cheddar and Monterey Jack Cheeses on Grilled Sourdough -$12.99
The brisket is very tender and the barbecue sauce gives a nice sweetness and tang to the entire sandwich. There’s multiple varities of cheese in play here too which helps bring along all of the ingredients. The pickles add a great crunch and everything works well, it feels like a barbecue platter on a sandwich.
Monte Cristo -Thick-sliced Smoked Turkey Breast, Ham, Raspberry Marmalade, Dijon Mustard and Melted Swiss Cheese on Grilled Custard soaked Brioche -$11.49
Quite possibly the best quick service item in the park. It tastes like it’s on french toast, which is a huge win for the monte cristo family. While this one doesn’t resemble the famous one at the Blue Bayou in Disneyland, we feel this is a significant step forward for Hollywood Studios quick service and deserves equal spotlight. If you get one sandwich from Woody’s Lunch Box let this one be it.
Smoked Turkey Sandwich -Thick-sliced Smoked Turkey Breast, Lettuce and Tomato with Dijonnaise spread served chilled on Sunflower Multigrain -$9.99
Labeled as thick sliced turkey, we are inclined to agree. While the turkey was tender, everything mixed together (including the sunflower multigrain bread) just didn’t work. It’s a fine sandwich, but you can do better here. The star of this dish is the side of macaroni salad. It’s literally the perfect macaroni salad, served fresh and cold.
Grilled Three-Cheese Sandwich -Melted Provolone and Cheddar Cheeses with a Cheddar Cream Cheese Spread on Garlic Buttered Grilled Artisan French Bread -$8.99
Three cheeses melted together in harmony. Take note you can ask for a side of the soup as your side item, it’s PERFECTION. Creamy and warm, the perfect accompaniment to the grilled cheese sandwich. There’s a lot to love here, the combination comes second behind the monte cristo.
“Totchos” – Potato Barrels coated with Beef and Bean Chili, Shredded Cheese and signature Queso with Tomatoes and Corn Chips finished with Sour Cream and a sprinkle of Green Onions -$8.99
These are a solid choice. The idea behind totchos seems kind of beaten to the ground at this point, but there’s good intention here. Unfortunately the quality of tot varies across the entire dish, we received some ultra-soft ones and then others were as hard as a rock. There’s potential here and we’ll have to give it another try later.
Grown-Up’s Lemonade -Three Olives Cherry Vodka, odwalla® All-Natural Lemonade and Black Cherry Purée -$9.25
This one is basically cherry lemonade, which is a unique flavor option for the odwalla lemonade. The puree doesn’t add nearly as much thickness as we would have imagined, and that’s a positive thing. There’s a full shot of cherry vodka mixed-in making this one potent drink, but very drinkable. It’ll be refreshing in the hot Florida sun!
Mystic Portal Punch – Souvenir Alien Sipper- POWERade® Mountain Berry Blast with flavors of Lemon-Lime and Tangerine served in a Souvenir Alien Sipper – $16.19
The name Mystic Portal comes from Toy Story 2, and (surprise!) is a direct quote from our Alien friends. If you really want the sipper, go for it. It’s a cool and unique sipper that has the Claw and Aliens, including land branding. The punch itself tastes like a liquid jolly rancher, really sweet and a little bubbly.
legends, great review
Is the French toast sandwich teased in April only available during breakfast
Are those sandwiches premade or Cooke day to order?
Cooked to order, sorry.
I’m not feeling the love with those meals.
