Today Disney announced that their will be a vinylmation Lion King set. In an unprecedented announcement, Disney told us not only that the Lion King set will be a 12 piece blind box set, but that it will be a Disney Store Exclusive and it will be released on August 29nd 2011! They also emphasized Mufasa!

There are plenty of characters, but they have already done a young Simba (he was the combo topper from Animation 1) and Banzai (from Villains 1). Who would you like to be in the set? Rafiki? ect….
Also, would you feel obligated to go out and find the Young Simba and Banzai to add to your Lion King set?? WOuld you want a second one of each to you could display them with the original sets and the Lion King set at the same time? (That’s what I do with the Little Green Men from Park 2!!)

I love Lion King. But I won’t be spending my money if they’re the new mold. Sorry to beat a dead horse.
It’s clearly on the new mold. But, even from the “concept” picture, it looks like the new mold will be lost in the faces. Mufasa looks darn good.

What does these new series’s being released mean for the future of Animation Series, if they keep releasing seperate series then they wont have enough to put into Animation.
I would like it if they maybe used Animation for Vintage Disney Animation, like the shorts that used to be on the telly back in the day, but i still dont think this will give enough charaters for Future Animation sets
I’m guessing they trying to be funny when they “emphasized Mufasa”, realating to the quote of the hyenas

although to be honest the vinyl does look like Older Simba, or maybe its a hint at a varient of a ghost Mufasa!
I think this set would be difficult to create/predict as two characters have already been made. So will the other hyenas appear in the lion king set or appear in the later villains set/s? I would really love Timon & Pumbaa, Scar + the rest of the hyenas, Zazu would also be cool but would depend on the way he’s presented on the vinyl shape.
It also doesn’t help that its the new mold. )=

Great idea for a series, but I can save my money because it’s on the NEW mold.
Just check the OLD molds with Bonzai and Simba, Mickey’s buttons are anatomically correct on the animals. One more reason to have put this set on the OLD mold.
