An In-Depth Look at New Fantasyland’s Storybook Circus

While we wait for more pictures and video, I decided to post WDWNT Reporter Adam Roth’s twitter pictures of today’s Storybook Circus opening. Let’s take a closer look at the first piece of the New Fantasyland puzzle:

Dumbo looks great in the new pastel colors!

The story scenes on the bottom of the carousel were a nice touch

Great attention to detail

The rest of Fantasyland has a long way to go…

PINK ELEPHANTS ON PARADE!

The other Dumbo spinner will take a while

Barnstormer signage

A look across the way

The back of the Barnstormer sign has a reference to Wiseacre Farm from Toontown Fair

This poster is up on the construction walls… including Humphrey the Bear eating a candy apple? Maybe he’ll be getting a food service location of some kind?

The Dumbo interactive queue isn’t open yet

Dumbo sign

Inside the queue

Lots of little popcorn lights on the queue

Dumbo looks great with the water feature!

Work continues on the tents

I can’t wait to see this at night

WATER!

Another new sign

Cool poster

I like that the flat people have now stepped into a three-dimensional scene…

Another cool poster

A magic feather!

Again, great details

You can see the train tracks that will come from the Roundhouse, where the Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak Station will be

These restrooms are amazing…

Plenty of luggage outside the Fantasyland Station exit

Animal prints in the pavement

Carolwood Park… I don’t have to tell you what an awesome Walt reference this is…

Booth at the entrance to Barnstormer

New signage for the train

Casey Jr. weathervane

Nice LED lighting

Even though the path to Tomorrowland is open, work still to be done

Some old train tracks

Tracks run all over the place in this section

Goofy crashed

This could have just been a cutout, but they even put a fringe where Goofy went through…

A Main Street cart out to handle guest demands for spring break

Work continues on more Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid facade

NEW GARBAGE CANS

This will eventually be the FASTPASS/xPASS collection point

Love the costumes

Speakers and cameras themed nicely

I see you old Dumbo…

There are peanuts in the pavement… wow…

FASTPASS/xPASS queue ready for The Barnstormer as well

See you real soon Storybook Circus, we’ll be back for more pictures and video!

  1. I simply don't understand how not opening the second Dumbo for the opening of the area makes sense… they appear to have made a huge problem for themselves by having to install it now the area has opened to the public. Surely they could have just closed the original Dumbo earlier to allow it to be refurbished for the area opening?
Other than that the area looks AMAZING and I can't wait to see it later in the year.

    • The idea was to have Dumbo operating for as long as possible. Even now, it's still at the same capacity as it was before, it will only get better once the other side opens, probably in 2 months or less.

  2. This is a fabulous update! I was there about 2 weeks ago. I missed this! But I got low crowds in exchange and One More Disney Day :). I can't wait to be back in October! I wonder if I can sneak a quick weekend trip in the next couple of months :).

  3. Can someone explain a few things please?  I don't get the "Carolwood Station" reference — what does that mean?  Is it from an old movie?  I'm sorry if that's a dumb question, but I feel stupid because I don't get it.  I also don't get where in that one picture the writer says that it's a reference to "Wiseacre Farms".  This is the picture that is the back of the Goofini sign where it's a jumble of letters or something. It looks like they forgot to paint the back of the sign, but how is that a reference to anything?  Sorry if that is a dumb question. Do you also think they meant to put those peanut shells in the cement or was that a mistake?  Won't that rot in there and ruin the pavement?  I like the circus uniforms on the Cast Members — sometimes I wish the Cast Members didn't always look so sloppy though.  That's not Disney's fault — the people themselves who work there don't stand up straight or take care of themselves and slouch around a lot.  That always irks me in the parks because I remember going when I was little in the 80s and 90s and the people working then always seemed so crisp and attentive and happy to be working there — but now they all seem sloppy and lazy and miserable all the time.  Why is that?

    •  Don't see any other replies so……Carolwood Station is a reference to the train that Walt Disney built in his backyard on Carolwood Drive. He named the train the Lilly Belle, and the railroad company was named The Carolwood Pacific.
