Disney Infinity 3.0: Gold Edition Coming to PC

It appears that a deluxe edition of Disney Infinity 3.0 is coming to Steam, but there’s a catch.

According to a recent update on the Steam Store, all users who purchased any DLC for the game before September 30 will be eligible to receive a Gold Edition of Disney Infinity 3.0 for free, when it releases later this year.

As of September 30, 2016, Disney Infinity 3.0 will remain playable but will temporarily be unavailable for new downloads. DLC purchases from the Steam storefront and in-game will also be unavailable.

If you have made any DLC purchases for Disney Infinity 3.0 (from the Steam storefront or in-game), you will be eligible to receive a free Gold Edition of Disney Infinity 3.0 later this year. The Disney Infinity 3.0 Gold Edition will allow you to enjoy all Disney Infinity 3.0 Playsets, characters, and Power Discs at no additional cost.

Please note that Gold Edition will also include necessary changes to Online Features, which will allow you to continue to play through your adventures once Disney Infinity Servers have been shut down.

For a limited time, you will be able to transfer your Disney Infinity 3.0 save progression to the new Gold Edition to ensure all your Play Set and Toy Box progress is not lost.

No word on whether or not this version of the game will ever be available for purchase, but it is great to see PC players of the game get some love, after they were nearly shut out of all DLC and future figure releases earlier in the year.

As of now, the Gold Edition is only planned for the PC Steam version, though maybe one day we will see it come to consoles.

I was confused, too. Then I found this:

Not only will there will be no Disney Infinity 4.0, but Disney has made the decision to discontinue the franchise, close down its developer, and stop publishing video games.
Disney Infinity 3.0 will continue to support films released this year with new figures and Play Sets, including Alice Through the Looking Glass and Finding Dory, but after that the entire franchise will be axed.

IOW yes, it has been discontinued and they’re looking for a way to get revenue for an EOL product and sell existing doll supply.
