Starting Monday, April 24, Disneyland will be testing Wi-Fi hot spots at select locations around the resort. As part of this test, Guests will not see any visible indication that testing is taking place. Guests may notice a new wireless network available on their mobile devices starting April 10. If they follow the steps to connect, they can access and utilize the Wi-Fi in that area starting April 24. Guests may have trouble connecting their device to the Wi-Fi network during this testing period.
All Guest with a mobile device that connects to Disney’s network will be asked to accept terms and conditions. Connectivity is subject to change at any time, and can’t be guaranteed during the testing period.
This is in preparation for the imminent rollout of the MaxPass system, a paid service that will allow digital FastPass reservations for rides and shows.
It will be interesting to see how the eventual MaxPass system compares to the My Disney Experience system currently being used by Walt Disney World. I imagine the technology will come easier to guests, as Disneyland is more locals based than WDW, and with the paid option, I wonder if the problems of longer stand by lines will be as frequent a complaint.
Will it be an extra cost to use the wifi fast pass system?
Disney has had WiFi in the parks a wonderful network for four years now. The thing is it was only used by all the cast members. Most didn’t know it existed and it was under a secret code when u looked up networks on ur phone.the article sounds like it’s a revelation and. Whole new thing..The only new thing about the network is seeing how many can be on it . Also the wifi has existed in which the guests got to log on for world of color. The wifi in the park has been great and we can only not get signal t certain places behind the old rides like small world on Disneylnd side. I can even get the wifi in the pirates ride though.i wish people and Disney would stop acting like it’s all new. It’s not
DLR only had WiFi access in the hotels. Are you speaking of WDW?
My family and I just got back late last night (4/12) from Disneyland. They are, indeed, installing posts that are covered but remind me of the Magic Band reading posts (w/ thumb print reader) at Disney World. I noticed them at Splash Mountain, Big Thunder and one other place I can’t remember. A Cast Member said they’d be in use “soon.” Through the canvas cover, they felt like they might have a sort of vertical cut-out where you put your phone to have the Fastpass read, like a boarding pass.
I have concerns about the MaxPass system: I’m not keen to pay for FastPasses and I’m concerned that if guests with reservations at Disney hotel properties have access to that 60+ days prior to the reservation (as is similarly available at WDW), Guests taking spontaneous trips or staying off-property ~ as was true for us ~ won’t be able to get FastPasses at all or they’ll only be available for when we don’t really want them.
This trip (4/9~12) the parks were packed: we didn’t ride Radiator Springs Racers at all as stand-by wait was about 2 hours, single rider was about an hour and FastPasses were mostly taken by Guests with hotel or 3-day Park Hopper early entry before we got in.
I guess I feel like I don’t trust Disney to do this in a way that isn’t going to let me down. I’ll try to keep an open mind about it.
