BREAKING: Stitch’s Great Escape Will Close Forever Next Month

Having been on a seasonal operating schedule for quite a while now, Stitch’s Great Escape at the Magic Kingdom will be open again December 23, 2017 through January 6th, 2018. However, it will never open again following that.

Disney is expected to make the announcement shortly, but the final day of operation for the Tomorrowland attraction will be January 6th, 2018. The closure will make way for a new, yet-to-be-announced attraction.

Stitch’s Great Escape replaced the ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter in 2004, becoming one of the most poorly received attractions in the park’s history.

  1. Long overdue. Excited to see what comes next and if that awesome Stitch animatronic will be put to use anywhere else!

  2. only hope they an make the space into something worthy of the original imaginative trip to the moon. Remember how it captured our imagination? Wrap the entire chamber in a wrap around LCD screen and make it the 1st hologram deck

  3. I know it’s a sub-par attraction, but I’ll be sad to see it go. It was the one ride my youngest wanted to go on during our last Disney trip but couldn’t because it went seasonal. I hope they include Stitch somewhere else in the park other than just a meet & greet.

  4. Disney will soon own Aliens with the purchase of 21st Century Fox studios. Will Alien Encounter return with Sigourney Weaver and the Xenomorph?

But maybe Ralph is coming as long rumored.

  5. What version was the worst? Mission to the moon, mars, alien or Stich. I hope they send it off right by rolling the castle as Stich is the most Universal character of the fab six

  6. I just hope they add another Stitch related attraction somewhere. Lilo and Stitch remains my favorite Disney movie to this day and it saddens me greatly that there doesn’t seem to be any plans for a continued attraction dedicated to the movie.

    • So you’re the guy who likes Lilo & Stitch! You should check out Ohana at the Polynesian Village for breakfast. Those two run that joint.

  7. I never understood why Disney shoved Stitch in our face so much throughout the years. Yeah, I guess he’s kind of a fun and unique Disney character, but certainly not to the level that they pushed him to be. Glad they are getting rid of this for good.

  8. Unfortunately, that little corner of Tomorrowland has been cursed from the day it opened. Mission to The Moon and Mission To Mars were very boring and disappointing. Alien Encounter was actually well done, but too scary for younger children. So it had to be kiddie-fied by gutting the story, adding a cute character, and throwing in a noxious burp joke. I really want to see this particular area succeed, but I will keep my expectations low.

  9. Alien was uncomfortable and scared little kids, Stitch was fun, the poke in back wasn’t lol. Any chance for space related perhaps bringing a Star Wars theme or is that overdone and reserved for Hollywood Studios only? It be best to keep it a true Tomorrowland fit and theme…i.e. Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear, People Mover, Orbital, even the old classic Carousel of Tomorrow.

  10. they kill Stich and KEEP hall of presidents???? that is the single worst attraction not Stitch. only go to HOP when I need a nap. Disney gets millions daily and they polled 120k?????

  11. So glad it’s closing. It was great when it was the original ride. Now it’s just stupid. Unfortunately, people DIDN’T LISTEN. They were told it was too intense for young children but stupid parents drug them into the ride anyway. Then they had the nerve to complain.

  12. Really people Stitch’s great exscape os my favorite attraction and Stitch is my favorite Disney Character you are seriously replacing it for something as stupid as Reck it Rouf

  13. Stitch’s great escape is my favorite ride you can’t take that away from me he is my favorite Disney character I would be lost without stitch’s great escape, its staying!!!
