UPDATE: Disney Claims Stitch’s Great Escape Will Return at the Magic Kingdom

Despite internal documents stating otherwise, Disney World has apparently decided not to permanently close Stitch’s Great Escape at the Magic Kingdom just yet. Rumors indicate a much needed refurbishment of the Tomorrowland Speedway later this year will facilitate the final reopening of the Tomorrowland theater-in-the-round attraction, changing the attraction closure plans we originally reported.

We of course reported that Stitch’s Great Escape was closing forever based on the leaked documents, but between the leak and Disney’s expected announcement, plans were changed. This kind of thing does happen when you announce events or projects based on leaked information, bringing to mind the changed plans for the TRON Lightcycle Power Run coaster, originally slated to replace the Tomorrowland Speedway. Regardless, we here at WDWNT.com strive to bring you information first and will continue to report leaks from viable sources as we see fit.

Regardless, Disney provided zero information to their cast members about the attraction, which prompted those working at Stitch’s Great Escape to announce to guests that January 6th, 2018 was the final day ever for the show.

Stitch’s Great Escape is currently closed with no announced return date, but the Alien Encounter Character Greeting with Stitch should be available to guests again soon. Whether or not the attraction will reopen and Disney will keep to their word, only time will tell.

  1. Not sure how the TRON ride was “originally slated to replace the Tomorrowland Speedway.” The concept drawings that have been shared by Disney since day 1 include the Speedway in them.

  2. On Sept 30, 2017 you announced Stitch was closing for ever.

So, after each seasonal opening and closing, can we expect the same announcements that it will never open again?

  3. Just my input: the following statement is not accurate.

“Disney provided zero information to their cast members about the attraction, which prompted those working at Stitch’s Great Escape to announce to guests that January 6th, 2018 was the final day ever for the show.”

Although it is true Disney provided zero information to cast members; this is not what prompted them to say it’s closing forever. They don’t know; however, they’ve heard the same rumor released to the public as previously posted. They don’t know the source. Again, to their knowledge, there was never an official word from Disney.

      • On my last trip a bus driver told me they were going to start allowing guests to pay to stay in the parks overnight. I used a bit of common sense and realized that maybe the hourly worker didn’t really have the inside scoop and moved on with my day. I guess I should have treated it as gospel.

      • You’re referring to standard safety and operating procedures which is backed by official documentation.

This has nothing to do with spreading a rumor.

  4. Or maybe instead of reporting every single leak, have some actual journalistic integrity and wait until there’s an official announcement.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/ ¯

    • The same journalistic integrity as when the Sentinel came out an speculated that Disney was buying all the land in Central Florida? Or the same journalistic integrity that provides the other 99% of accurate “speculation” stories that led to you finding this site and even being in the comments under this post?

      • Everyone is a critic, you can’t win so don’t let it throw you. Let’s face it, if you didn’t report the rumors (strong, confirmed, or otherwise) you’d get slapped for not doing your job very well. When you report on stuff that Disney actually announces or publishes which then changes or proves to be inaccurate you get slapped for not doing your job very well.

Also, as far as the premise of waiting for an “official announcement”, well then any/every one of the bog sites would be pretty much shut down.

  5. Thanks for the update, Tom. Some people are just salty that you aren’t utilizing Cormac the Magnificent as a source ;)

  6. Thanks for your hard work Tom! I appreciate your posts on everything from confirmed news to potential changes. I would rather know all the possibilities that might come to the Disney Parks even if it can change later. It won’t hurt my feelings if Disney decides to change their mind or a source was incorrect. Keep up the good work!

  7. If everyone calls it a “rumor” its just that…subject to change! You people are wacko. I applaud you for staying cutting edge and reporting things as you hear them. Some rumors will end up being false, thats life.
With that said, am i the only one excited about a speedway refurb!!!!! Woo Hoo

  8. Keep up the good work Tom. Your site is the first Disney news site I check everyday. It is the best out there.
