REVIEW: PIXAR Fest’s Chilled Noodle Salad at the Lucky Fortune Cookery

PIXAR Fest has finally begun at the Disneyland Resort in Southern California and one of the many specially-themed food offerings was the Chilled Noodle Salad, originally billed as “color-changing noodles,” found at Disney California Adventure’s Lucky Fortune Cookery. I sampled this dish on the event’s opening day and can’t wait to share my thoughts with you. So without further ado, I present to you the PIXAR Fest Chilled Noodle Salad!

As you head up to place your order at the Lucky Fortune Cookery in Disney California Adventure, you will find a sign describing the Chilled Noodle Salad in the window.

Here is the dish in all its glory. For the price of $10.49, the noodle portion could be a bit larger. This felt more like a large side dish in the end rather than a full lunch.

Judging by their consistency, I believe the “iridescent noodles” are some version of glass noodles (sweet potato starch-based noodles), like the ones found in Japchae. The chopped, toasted peanuts added a nice crunch.

The vegetables in PIXAR Fest's Chilled Noodle Salad

The accompanying veggies consisted of a shredded daikon and carrot mix and pickled cucumbers. The daikon and carrots weren’t really much to speak of; they were simply those two vegetables. However, I loved the cucumbers, which were slightly pickled in rice vinegar and had a bit of spicy kick at the end of each bite. Looking back, I think this was perhaps Disneyland’s attempt at kimchi.

the vinaigrette for PIXAR Fest's Chilled Noodle Salad

The vinaigrette was billed as “sweet and spicy” but I would have called it more “sweet and savory” with the prevalent flavors being a sweet soy sauce with hints of sesame oil and green onion. I am pretty sensitive to spicy stuff and I didn’t notice any heat coming from the vinaigrette.

After you pour the the vinaigrette on top of the noodles and stir with your chopsticks, the blue noodles turn purple! It took a bit of stirring to achieve the change in color, but the effect is still fun.

PIXAR Fest’s Chilled Noodle Salad was a fun way to celebrate the start of the resort’s festivities. With PIXAR Fest running until September 3, it is safe to say that this was not the only time I will be feasting on this dish. If you find yourself in Disney California Adventure with a hankering for something a little different, you can’t go wrong with the Chilled Noodle Salad.
